So the scientists got HIV from the monkeys they were testing on? That’s pretty sick. I don’t want scientists like that developing my drugs.

 Read the entire article fer chissakes before you post foolishness. They tried it on human patients and the results look promising. Unfortunately it's a tailor made cure for each individual and will be a last ditch and expensive cure.

I did. However, they said that they tested it on rats and monkeys, which are two animals that are immune to HIV. That throws the entire article into doubt.

It's actually a bush based diesease. People who live in the jungles of Africa eat whatever they can get. And to prepare a monkey, one would use a knife, a person cutting up a carrier monkey cut their finger, got AIDS, had sex with someone. It spread from there

HIV is an extremely specialized virus, that only affects humans. That's why it's called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

It can be carried by all mammals though. And genetically similar apes can also be affected.

How so? If the research was pushed forward by an unbelievably obviously false situation, such as infecting rats and monkeys with HIV, the credibility greatly decreases.

It can't be carried by all mammals. HIV is killed by their immune system. And even genetically similar apes are unaffected. Chimpanzees can suffer from a similar virus called SIV, Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, but they are immune to HIV.

Not the exact number, but none of them are affected by HIV, which only affects humans. It's like smallpox, measles, or polio. Only humans can be affected by it.

If the research was pushed forward by an unbelievably obviously false situation, such as infecting rats and monkeys with HIV, the credibility greatly decreases.First off it's been long theorized that the human version of the disease came from monkeys originally. Many mammals have their own version of the disease, reseach can be done using the species specific virus and then, as the story seems to colaborate, a study using the human version is done. Your offhanded dismissal of the research was shortsighted.

No you are wrong.
Chimps can get HIV. It does not turn into AIDS for them.
Baboons cell structure seems immune to HIV.
Chimps also have their own called SIV.
If you can stop it on a chimp, then odds are it will work with a human.

I dunno, maybe there is some sort of conspiracy amongst scinetists, webmd and gay rights advocacy group to "turn everyone gay" or "force thier lifestyle down our throat...ewww, disgusting!"
Anyway, I know this news is preliminary but its still heartening that there is hope out there, especially for people in Africa, even though this might become an expensive theraphy, at least we are seeing progress.

All I was commenting on is that HIV proper only affects humans. Chimps can contract it, but it has no effect on them. There was probably a previous form that was capable of affecting both humans and chimpanzees, but it was likely outcompeted by HIV proper. Besides, bringing up chimpanzees is irrelevant to the discussion, as they are not monkeys, nor are they even in the same family.
In response to the "God" comment, I am, for the record, an atheist.

WebMD would not be the ones faking it. However, it would suprise me if they fell prey to overzealousness and prematurely reported on something without checking it out properly first. Sadly, this has a tendency to happen from time to time. I'll remain skeptical until more research comes out in favor of this.

It's not like they're declaring a cure. It's specific for each individual, meaning it's time consuming and costly. They also only claim it to have halted progress of the disease not cure anyone of it totally.
You can't be happy until you've pissed in everyone's cheerios can you?

No-one ever went to the moon because - as has been pointed out around here many times before - it is made of delicious moon cheese.
How is the big rocket going to land on a dairy product.
Thus the moon landings were impossible and must be faked.

The question is, what kinds of cheese are to be found on the moon? I'm pretty sure there are different kinds, as exhibited by the seemingly different shades you can see with your naked eye from Earth. Are there Hard Cheddar Zones up there? Or is the moon mostly Ricotta? Hmmm.

I read the site just fine the first time, thank you. It's called summarizing to make things fit into just a sentence or two so that more people will be apt to read the post instead of skip over it. You are simply splitting hairs.
