So he was fired - or quit, I don't really know - tonight.

Anyway, he started crying. What a girl. Grow up, Brokaw.

He's been working at NBC since 1976. Have you ever tried to set aside something you've worked 30 years on? When you can do that dry-eyed, then you can tell him to grow up.

David Brinkley didn't cry.

what a punk

I have seen people retire who have been working jobs for more than 30 years. They left dried eyed. As a matter of fact they left with a huge grins on theire faces. So people can stop working at a job and not cry like a little girl at the end.

And I doubt highly that when Bill Gates retires...well you know what I mean....he won't be crying like a punk on TV.

David Brinkley didn't cry.

David Brinkley also didn't feel the need to take cheap shots at retiring newsmen to prove something.

That's true, he took his cheap shots at retired newsmen and Bill Clinton.

What's your problem anyway, do you have something for Brokaw.

Brokaw rules. The fact that he cared enough about his job to cry is something way more mature than saying he cried like a little girl.

He didn't get fired, or "quit" I don't think....according to the CNN webpage, he announced his retirement two years ago, and today was the day. Apparently he is contractually binded to do 3 documentaries a year though.

He didn't take cheap shots at anybody. That was part of the reason why, except apparently for you, he was so widely considered the best network broadcaster.

As for whether I have something for Brokaw, only partly. He was a good friend of my father's growing up, but I've never met him. What I take offense to, however, is the idea that a man is a "girl" just because he cries at the end of his effective career, moreover a career that lasts for such a long time and he loved to do. He's been a journalist since 1966, and IIRC covered combat zones in the Vietnam war. Say what you want about him, but he isn't girly. Moreover, one has to question exactly why someone would be so primitive as to say that about him.

Have you ever tried growing a pair?

They grew in fine by themselves, thanks. Moreover, I apparently am man enough not to have to base my masculinity on putting down people I've never met, so it seems they work pretty well.

Deacon: Tell me, sir, if you were leaving a job you absoultely loved, and had loved for thirty years, wouldn't you have cried?

Gosh, this must be the adolescent groups opinion. I'm hardly a supporter of his, but after a successful career, a few tears is cool. It makes him more of a human than a talking head for the liberals.
Never would've expected that.
Athletes cry all the time when they win major games. Bid fukkin' deal.
Grow up.

Gee, wilkers you are right. How silly of me to state my opinion of him for crying. I should known that, a man whose job it is to tell the news not cry on TV, has the right to shed a few tears. ‘It’s cool’

And no one’s talking about athletes, or winning the world series, or any other championship. How nice of you to bring it up out of your ass.

But I will grow up, bless your soul for that. One day I wanna grow up and be just like you!

Here are some facts-

1) He's stepping down, he wasn't fired.
2) It wasn't tonight when he decided this/ made it public. This weeks Time Magizine had a feature about it.
3) He loved his job and is only retiring because he is getting older and wanted to let someone younger take his place. He was worried that as he became older, the quality of his new and broadcasts would decline.

People should stop crying in public all the time. It's mawkish.

And that goes for those damn althetes too.

What ever happened to self control. How often did you see Theodore Roosevelt cry? That's right, never. Not once. Even when he was let go from the White House. (In fact he was once shot in the chest and he went ahead and gave a speech anyway, I'd like to see Brokaw do that.)

Oh President of the United States vs athletes and News Anchors.

For some reason I think people would get a tad worried about the President Crying.

So what if he cried. The guy did many things.

What have you done?

Umm... I, nor anyone who plays Nationstates, has seen Teddy Roosevelt. Maybe Myrth...(his profile says says born in 1902). Anyway, Teddy Roosevelt also was a war veteran and the bullet was blocked by his thick speech, effectivly having the bullet shot feel like that of a modern paintball. Not to mention that there was two hour delay after the shot was fired to check on Teddy. He only had a bruise.

Brokaw was the paragon of journalism excellence. He has a right to cry as much as the next guy. Too bad he's leaving but he gave enough justification for it.
