The Founding Fathers

There seem to be many people that look to the alleged words of 'the Founding Fathers' in an almost worshipping way.

Interpreting the will of the Founding Fathers etc...

Why does anyone care what the FF wanted? They are just as dead as Jesus and Mohammed!

Is this a new religion springing forth?

Maybe. I have no religion, but I do feel the same love for the USA as some do for Jesus or Allah.

I've had people tell me I'm wrong because the founding fathers didn't want it that way (gay marriage...)

The founding fathers owned slaves, and wrote that into the constitution (the 3/5 rule).

I'm not going to accept any of their beliefs "just because they founded the country".

Exactly. Believing in/worshipping ones' country is one thing. Deifying (sp?) people is another. Or what? Maybe not. Maybe the drive behind the two is the same as what fuels religion. Pity I don't have the rhetoric to explain the picture.
