I will be 22 in March, and quite frankly its starting to creep me out. What is 22? At 18 you can buy cigarettes and do "adult" things, and at 21 you can drink (woohoo!) but at 22, what is there? Its the birthday that officially says "you have nothing left to look forward to legally" or something. Maybe I am just getting paranoid. I don't know...my brain works funny. :(

There are still things. At 55, I think, you can't be called for the army, then you become a senior citizen and can get discounts and complain about everything and stop the line at the counters. At a 100 you get a call from the president or a mention in a radio show.

well 16 is the legal age of consent, which means that if you have sex with someone under 16 they are not legally able to consent and so is considered rape, but most teenagers tend to ignore it and give into hormones

Most countries have an "age of consent" below which the person is considered unfitted to consent to sex, precisely because it's such a difficult thing to control and when combined with immaturity and inexperience makes a very easy to control person.
So, if an 18 or 21 year-old (or older, of course) meets a 15 year old and "seduces" her, even though she said yes, for the law still counts as rape, since she didn't really know what she was getting into. It's what called "statutory rape". Courts tend to dismiss it when it's between people the same age or very close.

Townies are somewhat difficult to describe. Well, to describe without being modbombed for obscene language at any rate.
http://www.chavscum.co.uk/howto.php
gives a fairly easy guide on spotting one. Suffice to say, if you walk in any direction in the middle of London for about two minutes, you'll spot some youths with caps tilted right back on their heads, speaking some incoherant language, and going by the name of Kevin or Wayne in the case of males, and Sharon or Tracy in teh case of females.
Pikey is a slang term for gypsies, most predominantly of Irish descent. I'm not going to get started on them and why they annoy me, but basically, they set up caravans wherever they like, steal whatever they want, threaten people, and the police and local councils do nothing about it.
I don't know if you would of heard of the Tony Martin case over there, but he shot dead a burglar in his house and wounded another. Both were pikeys. Yeah, my mistake, what you seem to be using the term 'townies' to mean, we in Northrn Ireland use the term 'spides' or 'steekies' for (shell suited youth). 'Townies' is sometimes used over here to refer to the smart-casual lager lout contingent.

British Nationalist Party: they split off from the National Front, and claim to be 'third positionists' but are basically just the same old reactionary xenophobes and fascists trying to sell themslves to the electorate by presenting a cleaner image and jumping onto whatever bandwagon is currently in the media spotlight.
Have a look at their own mission statement and make up your own mind:
"The British National Party exists to secure a future for the indigenous peoples of these islands in the North Atlantic which have been our homeland for millennia. We use the term indigenous to describe the people whose ancestors were the earliest settlers here after the last great Ice Age and which have been complemented by the historic migrations from mainland Europe. The migrations of the Celts, Anglo- Saxons, Danes, Norse and closely related kindred peoples have been, over the past few thousands years, instrumental in defining the character of our family of nations."

No, not at all, there comes a point where hurley sticks or baseball bats are the only way to respond to the people behind the BNP.

But I can be a lot more mature then most 14 yr olds you might see, well actually the so called ' 14 ' yr olds you see running around are actually 11 - 12 yr old Middle Schoolers who sag there pants to the floor and act like there pimps and bitches talking about how they love Eminem lol.
Anyways that was totally un-needed and not really relevant...
Frankly, hon, the best way to show your maturity is to act mature. There's no need to say you're mature - if you just *do* it, people will notice.
Last time I checked, I'm 17.

No, it didn't, at least not to me. It just seems to me that the same anti-chav/townie/pikie sentiments are the same social phenomenon as anti-black/asian/Romanian/whatever sentiments, but in a slightly different form. Young men, by their very nature, have a tendency of being tribal and perceiving the world as us-versus-them which leads to a vilification of the other.

I may be misreading this, but I would like to make it clear that I am by no means rascist. In the slightest. But what I do object to is people abusing and disrespecting social values in the way that townies and pikies do. And, to a certain extent, the two girls of Pakistani descent who are playing bangra music at full volume right next door could be concieved as doing. Its getting slightly annoying at 3am.
Once more, just to reitterate, I am NOT a rascist.

Willingness to try new things and to learn are no respector of persons, gender, race, or age. As a matter of fact, studies have pretty conclusively shown that those who continue to learn as they grow older are less likely to have alzheimer's and loss of mental agility.

Well, I'm 17, going on 3, apparently ("...and I found a new My Little Pony today! Yeeeee! Andandand I've ingested about a ton of raw sugar! *dances*..."). I don't know how the cynicism and death plots fit in... guess I'm just a really warped three year old...
Actually, and I may remember wrong, if both partners are under 16, I think it's legal. I could easily have recalled incorrectly, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere reliable.
I have to disagree. If both are under 16, its a misdemeanor, rather than a felony. Then again, I may be wrong. We need some infallible always-correct deity on these forums.
As long as there are only two years or less difference between partners under 16, it's not statutary rape, according to those 'Am I Old Enough' booklets we got given as part of our school's big "we know you're screwing, drinking and doing drugs anyway, but we want to make you feel guilty about it" initiative.
Apparently, you can also get married if you're under the age of 16 as long as you have parental consent. I find this amusing.

I can see its loads of english speaking people here(not wery strange since this site is in english,) but Im from Norway, and Im (only) 18.
Alowed to drive/smoke/drink/get married/have sex(16here as well) but not alowed to buy spirits. in norway pirits and vine is only sold at special stores called the vinemonopoly, and it is extremely expensive. for about 20$ you can get a botle of vine, and spirits are even more expensive. Thats wy so many people in norway make their own spirits, although its not leagal ofcourse... :D

Are you saying you can't have sex until you're 16? Is that a law?

Excuse me if this makes me look like an idiot, but can you really not have sex until you are 16?
I would think anything lower would be sex with a minor or something like that. Technically in Illinois fornication is still a crime but I don't think it has ever actually been brought to course in the last 30 years at least.
Oh, and I'm 19.
I've just turned 30 and have already started using phrases like 'kids of today'. :-(

LOL
It's scary. I remember 18 vivdly. When I was 18, I was convinced I wouldn't live to see 30. I couldn't imagine it.
Now I'm staring 40 in the face and wondering where all the years went. I kinda feel the years sometimes... but not too often. I haven't really aged too much to look at, but I can see an unwilling maturity that has come since then. LOL
I look at a 25 year old and think "kid" now. Kinda freaks me out to realize that a lot of people I game with in AO were born after I graduated high school.
And now every so often, I have the detatched and vaguely curious thought "wonder if I'm going to make it to 60... prolly not..."
Funniest thing is, issues that were confusing at 18 aren't much clearer at 39, except the ones that resolved themselves with age and social progression. No matter how old you get, there will always be bullies, popularity contests, shallow and stupid people, familial conflicts and friends who pressure you to do stupid things. The only thing that seems to change is setting, priorities and consequences for failure... and your point of view on all of it. Aside from that, it's all a matter of scale and velocity.

33 is definitely not "too old." Too old for what? Being able to type and look at a monitor at the same time without losing their train of thought? :headbang: UGH. 33 is not "too old." One of my best friends is 31, and you would think he was in his early 20's. He is definitely not too old.
Well, I am 24 and my partner is 35 and I don't concider her old at all. In fact I feel like the old one in the relationship.
