To celebrate my 999th post, I'm starting a Shrine to Michael Buerk.

Without him, many accident and fire victims would never have appeared on primetime television, not to mention the countless out-of-work actors who earned their crust in the many reconstructions.

A truly great contributor to the Greater British Good.

News presenter - also made a programme called 999 (the British emergency number) about extraordinary survival stories, all thanks to those good people down at the emergency services.

And with that, he makes it into 4 figures.

Ah, a thousand posts. That makes you almost as big a hero as that kid who fell on his javelin and got impaled through the neck. Everybody remembers that 999. Apparently.

I certainly do remember that one. A classic. He could feel it vibrating as the firemen cut through it with a hacksaw.
