I just saw this news article. It looks like a pastor went to women and told them that if they did not have sex with him, then the devil will attack them.

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/3955156/detail.html

At first, I thought it was going to about a pastor and more young boys, but this was surprising.

As usual, one bad seed makes it into the spotlight and will lead to the inevitable stereotypes. First it was the young boys, now it's going to be "Christianity is just an excuse for people to force sex on each other!"

One bad seed? Methinks you actually meant to type "yet another bad seed".

Speaking of seeds, I seem to recall a passage in the Bible along the lines of :

"Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Wherefore by their fruit you shall know them."

Still, that was probably some do-gooder creating stereotypes.

He's a man of god. God told him to have sex with those women. It was for their own good. He protected them from the devil. If you don't agree you are calling god a liar.

Well, at least we now know that all clergymen are not homosexual pædophiles. I do fully understand that many Christian clerics are not like this, but the fact of the matter is that this type of stuff goes on. That's why Protestant broke off from the Catholics. Excluding the Anglican Church, 'cause that's different. Not that I really care though. I think the Church is heretical against nature for promoting celibacy.

I hate free speech and I hate you.
Well then I have no choice but to hate you, since freedom of expression is one of the best things about modern western society.

That celibacy bit depends on the denomination, really. All of the Methodists I know are actually rather fond of marriage. (Unless by "the Church" you meant Catholics...)

I don't really know much about the differences between types of Christianity. I know that Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity, and Protestants do not. I know I hate Evangelicals and Southern Baptists. I know Catholics are against contraceptives. Not much more about the differences. Back on topic, how many Christian clerics get married? The whole idea is that you must devote oneself to God, and have no "sinful" distractions, or something similar to that. There are pagan religions that believe that the only way to commune with god is through coital orgasm. These tend to be nature-centric religions. Christianity is a divinity-centric religion, which is why I'm not terribly fond of it.

Here is another perfect example of how Christian clergy use fear to get what they want.

One less difference for you: all Christians, including Catholics, Protestants and Eastern Orthodox, believe in the holy trinity - it's pretty much the defining belief of Christianity. Most of the differences between the various denominations are to do with practice, authority and theological detail.

As far as I can remember, Catholics are about the only major Christian denomination that require their clergy to be celibate, and even that's negotiable for ministers converting to Rome from other denominations.

Oh, ok, thank you. I had thought that Protestants though God was a single entity, and that he couldn't be divided, or something like that, but I trust you. I also had no idea that celibacy was not practised in the Protestant clergy. Thank you again, you have been quite informative.

I wish church-goers had more backbone and started to think on their own. People say you should have faith, but the only thing I ever see is blind-faith. It makes you wonder how often this happens within the church.
