Libertarians or any other party

Just wondering if there are any Libertarians or anyone else interested in talking about or debating issues.

I live in Oregon and a measure recently passed to ban same-sex marriage in this state. I'm discusted by the fact that we are even voting on the way other people live thier lives. The government should have no say in who can and can't get married.
Any opinions on this?

Hi, I'm Libertarian.

Yeah, I agree - while I do support equal rights for gays, the government should stay out of marriage alltogether.

Libertarian (Capital L) here in Tampa, FL. As far as you can get from Oregon, but Chuck Palahniuks travel book on Portland made me want to move there.

Centrist (Capital C) here in Albuquerque, NM. As far as you can get from Maine, but some guy's travel book on Augusta made me want to move there.

I'm a liberal (but an independent), and I fully agree with you. However, I don't think that the government is forbidding same-sex copulation or anything, just legal marriage. They can still get married in a church, just have no marital or civil union benefits. I think they should also permit this, but I also understand the other side's point of view, though I may not agree with it.

It's important to point out that governments started getting regulating marriage to stop inter-racial marriage.

To answer, of course it's rediculous. Even more unfortunate is the fact that politically, it was a brilliant move on his part (although not very visionary or creative). I wouldn't say it won him the election outright, but it sure as hell helped.
I see a lot of this in "Red Florida". The same state that brings us spring-break-all-year drugs and booze, thong bikinis and S&M clubs all along the coast and in the Keys.
We're a strange state. At least your pot laws are better. You wouldn't believe what I had to go through a while ago for a single roach.
The government forced me to go to 12 N.A. meetings. Religious meetings. We're a confused state at the moment. I relly thought that Oregon would've pulled through for it's gay neighbors. The others were not a suprise to me at all.

Could you explain that. That's interesting as I've never heard about that.

Yeah, I'm definitely liberal libertarian (with centrist slanting), and while I'm totally for equal rights, I'm willing to acknowledge that some people aren't ready for it yet... Also, I understand that one of the parts of allowing state sovereignty is dealing with 40% of the states explicitly banning gay marriages...
It's pretty sad, though.

I know that can't be legal... can it?

There's no such thing as "Capital C" Centrist. Not unles you're registered with the "Centrist" party. I'm not aware of one.

The government at one time made any interracial marriages illegal. You saw this especially during the Japanese internment period and before that, at that point in time Japanese people could not marry outside of their own race.

You'd better believe it if you bring any sticky-icky down here.
In most states, the Government has programs that require you to visit these programs, which are just cultish christian spinoffs.

The government has no business recognizing marriage one way or the other.
