I have yet to see a push for the Privatization of Social Security. Not even a half assed push.

No push for a reform of Social Welfare where people can abuse it to hell.

Nothing not one f'ing thing.

The hell are they waiting for?

It's traditional to not make major new legislative initiatives while a "lame duck" Congress is in session.

The US budget is so fucking ludicris it isn't even funny. If I were in Charge I'd Privatize Social Security, Reform Social Welfare, Abolish Foreign Aid, Abolish the funding that goes to homeless kids or whatever across the globe, enviornmental funding etc.

Also, I'd dedicate some of the GDP to help pay off our absurd Debt.

The GDP isn't just cash sitting in a bank account, experiments with deregulation and privitisation of Social security have proved in the past to be catastrophic, abolishing foreign aid, the money that builds schools in Pakistan and the Middle East, is gonna send kids to madrases that hate the west, reducing environmental funding will probably promote within the next 50 years a massive new industry; one that sells clean air, and taking money out of the hands of homeless kids... I just have to ask, what kind of sick monster are you?

Probably the realization that privatizing social security is stupid.

Do you even know how social security works? The money taken out of your check now goes to your parent's retirement ... not yours. You pay the past generation.

I'm 32. I pay into social security so that the baby-boomers can have a safety net when they retire. My kids (who are young now, but will begin work in about 10 years) will be paying in for me to have that security net.

Now ... if social security is suddenly privatized, all the money I've paid in will go to my parents generation, but my kids will be privately investing.

In short, my generation will be boned.

So take yer privatized social security and cram it.

Eloquently put, but unfortunately very often the same people who espose this kind of ideology-based economic stance have very little concern for anyone one other than themselves; which typically means neither facts nor your suffering would dampen their spirits.

"I live on the hill, who cares if the valley is set ablaze?" Never mind that flames down below often lick higher...

Of course I am making generalizations about the attitudes of the original poster...but am I truly wrong?

Don't be rediculous. They'd sell clean water. In fact, they're already on it. They've just gottne water downgraded from a human right to a human need (can't remember if that was at the IMF or the UN) which means that they can sell it and no one is entitled to it for free.

That's one thing you can be sure they won't do!

It's not such a bad thing. Our minority government can only make a budget, oay the debt and listen to the people because they are otherwise a lame duck government. Who's to say it's a bad thing when teh government is stuck? It means they can't fuck over the country.

And the fact that the payroll taxes of my generations future children (I'm 18) will not be enough to pay for social security? Something needs to change, and someone is gonna have to suffer if we want social security to last more than 45-50 more years.

So I hear screwing baby boomers to pay for this my generations (I'm 21)ldren with Privitizing is better than paying for baby boomers and having troubles paying for my generation.
Isn't that selfish. Shouldn't your parents be important? Respect your elders and all.

Privitizing is not the answer. I think Bush or the future president after him giving back the surplus that was stolen by Bush might help. :)

Republicans now have nothing to fight for that is why they stopped. They had to give up everything to win. Its a Pryraical victory. They gave up their morals with lies, gave up accountability with Tom Delay and Rumsfield, and more.

They gave up so much of what they used to be that they are dumb struck. They are looking around right now and thinking: How did we get here?

So they right now arehaving internal conflicts that might if they don't resolve them split up the party.

As a left wing Brit, and that is probably more left than a liberal, topics like this just scare the bejezus out of me. I am so glad that this is not even an issue for us. The closest we get is whether to privatise delivery of services but not provision. The Conservatives lost this arguement 10 years ago and no one except a right wing minority (luckily) seems to want it back.

I hope that means not another Sponsorship Scandal. Oh well, I know whom I'm supporting either way.
