Someone on a mailing list to which I belong asked if anyone would like to develop their own nation and join the region to which they belong. I was curious and decided to check it out. The rest is history. ;)

I was reading the daily article on electoral-vote.com during the election and the author mentioned NS, so I decided to check it out and eventually create Pensamiento.

Random one of my friends just gave me a link and I came here to check it out. Nothing fancy here.

Mine's actually kind of weird.

I'd recently seen a program on the Discovery Channel about killer chimps. So I got online and googled killer chimps and up comes the nation page for killer chimps! So I read it and the entire time going what in the fucking hell? So then I just went and looked all over the site and created Camel Eaters.

yeah i saw Nationstates in the computers History and asked my sister she told me about it and i gave it a go im loving it.
I never asked her where she got it from though must do that.

I was at Penn State last summer, taking summer courses before senior year of High School, and a friend of mine told me about the site. I'd actually been looking for something like this for quite a while, I logged in, and Klonor became my first nation. Oh, the joy!

A friend and I were talking about PBM gaming as she was seeking to acquire a company and wanted to know what she was getting into. This evolved to a discussion on PBeM gaming, and she said "Oh, I'm on a game like that!".

The rest, as they say, is history.

It was a bit less than a year ago. I was on a message board in Gamefaqs.com called "LUE" (it's really famous on the site, we do a lot of messing around...legally and off-site spam hijacks...fun stuff...). I saw this guy post a link to his nation. I got curious and created Colodia. A few days later I found myself kicked off of gamefaqs for going too far and decided to give this place a try.

I followed a link someone posted in a game programming/development forum I frequent...

It sounded interesting, so I started a Nation...

My computer/internet time is already pretty stretched, so I didn't really plan on becoming that involved... In fact, I never intended to post on these forums... But, I noticed a thread title that got my interest in the Latest Threads list of the NationStates navigation menu, so I had to come post in it... And then, I began noticing more that interested me, so I keep coming back...lol

Purely by mistake. Neat place though.

read a PC Format article about it a while back... sounded cool...

I don't even remember how i found this place. All i do know is that i've gotten alot of people to sign up here.

It was PC Zone's website of the month, back in *thinks*....guess that must have been July 2003.

The founder of our region was a peronal friend who later dropped out. I didn't post much at all until earlier this year, as I was intimidated enough to remain for most part silent. I just got around to reading Jennifer Government last month. It was a good read.

I was checking stuff on google, when I see a link to Jennifer Government: Nationstates. I immediatly checked this out and created Tomzilla

friend over the net told me he RPed here and that i'd probably enjoy it here. i joined because it sounded interesting.

A friend created his own nation so I followed suit

A friend linked to his country (can't remember which one it was) and I then looked around on the webpage, and here I am.

My cousin had his nation linked in his AIM profile, so I saw it and made a nation of my own.

I was considering whether I should by Jennifer Government, searched for it on the net, and found this.

So I was hunting one day, and while I was on my treestand I was surfing the internet- actually looking for a country-simulating computer game I could download, then found this site on google.

i suddenly realized that i have no idea how i first wandered in to these parts. for the life of me, i cannot remember what first led me to NationStates, nor can i remember what first prompted me to visit General.

My sociology teacher recommended Jennifer Government, I heard about NationStates in the book's introduction and I decided to give it a go.

I originally found NationStates through one of my online friends who linked to his country on his LiveJournal. I then saw it and created my original country (which is still around: Sarzonia). Meanwhile, his country "died" from inactivity while Sarzonia is still around. lol

Well, it's my brother who once told me he owned a country, and he gave me the adress.

I´ve heard about nationstates in an internet forum about "real-world" politics.
Another user mentioned the existence of such a simulation.
Thats how I found it.

My 7th grade geography teacher told us about it and we actually all made our own nation at school (my first nation was Stupid Freaks) but I didn't really go to the forums for two or three months after I joined NS.

About 2 years ago I came upon a US News and World Report that listed NS as their website of the week. As such I let the magazine sit on the shelf for a few months before acting on it.

Two things, who the heck is Stephistan and why does anyone care? And wrong forum. I found it through a friend.

Steph was a Mod who just left the game and we care because Steph was a good Mod.

Seriously though. I heard they were considering a massive invasion of NS with g0at and everything...waaaaay back when the mods considered me a little newbie and we had those old crappy forums that made double, triple, quadruple posts.

I dunno why they lost interest, the crappy server probably got the best of em.

Well i am currently in my third incarnation. I first found it a few years ago, i was just looking for online games and found NS, played it for a bit, then lost my password and couldn't remember it. Same happened in my second year at uni, but i wasn't on a lot so kinda drifted away from it. This year i was so bored at work i was looking for information on countries for my work, and this popped up again in google, so here i am, back again! :D

Co-worker told me about it. It's his fault I joined.

Wandered into the forums a few weeks later and found all you nutcases, so that's your fault.

From the moment I saw her I knew we were meant to be together. After some drinks, a few appetizers, and a good dose of chloroform, she knew it, too.

There's a link on fark under games and nation states is labled 'some better game designer'. Seemed popular, there were 200 people on it so.. yea. heh.

:D One day, my best friend posted the link of Nation States on the forum we usually go to. Under the link was a little description of the game and another one for her nation. I found that cool and different, so I joined.

Well, about a year and a half ago, all my friends were doing it so I started, lost interest, and left my nation to fade away. Then during this past summer I was bored one evening so I got back on.
Here's another question: What kind of nations have you had?
I was first a psychotic dictatorship, then a father knows best state (first nation.) Now, I've been a Scandinavian Liberal Paradise, Social Dem, Capitalist Paradise (although I had 100% income tax at the time.... odd), Inoffensive Centrist Democracy, Left leaning College State.... Now I think I'm gonna go for Psychotic dictatorship again.

A friend showed it to me and encouraged me and several others to make a nation.

Whilst looking for a good pic of Cabal on google image (i have never really found what i want on google its damn impossible). and as such one of the images that came up was a rather good Brotherhood of Nod flag belonging to you guessed it the nation of similar name :D. thats how i found nationstates and so you all have Nod to blame... go, go berate him for his slip lol.

I was referred here by my girlfriend. I guess this was her way of getting me to make good on some of my ideas for improving society.

Ah yes, "Life, the Universe and Everything"...that was the last place I went to on GameFAQs, though I was barely there. I left because the moderation team was too harsh (only forum I've ever been to where I've had moderation problems).

By the way, what was your user name? I was "D G" over there, but I was there last in 2002.

As for how I found out about this Site: someone posted a link in a forum I don't post in anymore (the MuchMusic forum) and I've been involved ever since.

Found out from one of the other coders for another online mmrpg sort of game (antrophia) and decided to come here :) summer work gets boring and he recommended it as a game that doesn’t take much time

Someone showed me his nationpage and checked it out, signed up and used the name of a childhood imaginary country.

It's kind of ironic, because I initially found this site in Feb 2003, so I could of had a nation from then, but for some odd reason, I couldn't create a nation. It probably had to do with the computer I was using...or just my stupidity back then, hehe. I re-found it by accident, and I've been lovin it ever since.

While reading through posts in a motorcycle forum I frequent, someone had mentioned NS.. now I have all but abandoned that forum while I attempt to take over the world.

Mutedfaith/ Wicked Alchemy forums had a thread on it. We have our own region, and my nations are now the largest, one is the UN deligate

Little did any of us imagine I would become THIS involved -- as a matter of fact, I believe I had and let my first nation die! It wasn't until the second time I joined that I stayed.

One of the members of one of the Delphi forums found it, made a nation and posted a link. The creator of that forum came here, started a region and persuaded many of the rest of the people from that forum to come, too, but they all lost interest and went back to posting there. I don't think they ever discovered these forums because I never saw any of their nations posting here. I came, (although I never told them) put my nation in a different region and I've been here ever since (much more interesting).

The FTC asked me to investigate it for irregularities.

On earlier morning in the summer I just woke up and hoped on the computer. I was typing in random searchs and somehow this came up. I checked it out, and within a few minutes I had my own country, Marabal. I still come here every day since then.

Another Mod :D

My college friends used to find every possible way to not do their coursework, and this was one of them.

A guy on a message board I no longer frequent put up a link and a number of members of said message board joined. I then created my nation and joined first Balkans then asked to become part of The Balkans region. It has been much more fun than the message board I used to go to. For one thing even the people I don't always agree with in my region are very civil and I've found the NationStates atmosphere to be more flexible and open minded even on a BAD day!

I in turn invited two friends and one invited her mom and a guy she knows. I invited a person I really only know online.
I have been able to make a lot of nice new online friends and have a lot of fun with the site generally.
