Now that I have your attention, I am wanting to know why USians seem to be so caught up in the ritual wastage of food? You see it all the time from Springer (yes I realise most of those are set up) which, yes I have watched for a laugh, to weddings and eating contests. Even eating live goldfish seems to be a USian ritual :eek: .

I find it totally disgusting on multiple levels from getting sticky and grotty to the total wastage of a resource that people are begging for on the streets in your country every day.

So here is my question - why?

because its fun...actually the eating of bugs on fear factor is not mass wasteage but there happens to be alot of that in the US, but also in most modern western cultures, as food is generally plentiffull and not worth the cost to recycle/save.

hmmm, good question, the most and best participants in eating contests are from southern Asia, and as to the waste of food, the world does it it is not just us.

Why is it a stupid idea for a thread? It is a genuine question about an aspect of USian culture that I find weird....

And if there is so much food around "the western world" then why is the foodfight so popular in the US and not so popular in other countries?

Touchy touchy BDD (who obviously has a lil' un - hence the name.... ;) ) Why is it such a problem that I ask? It's a genuine question.

As for "american" - No I mean USian. I am not talking about Canada, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile or any other country in North or South America - I am talking about the US.
