A new type of recordable disc that holds about 25GB of data, it's just gone on sale in Japan.

DVD rocks. I still keep an old VHS machine around for vintage porn I don't want to throw away, but DVD really kicks ass.

DVD. But VHS has one advantage.
When a DVD has previews they prevent you from skipping past them. And that pisses me off.

it depends what your watching

if say your watching one of the original star wars movies, definitely vhs because part of the greatness of those films were the cheesey special effects and the dvd versions take that away

any modern film though id have to say dvd

I voted VHS 'cos I'm fed up with being charged nearly twice as much for a DVD which costs less to make than the VHS tape of the same film.

OK, so you get "Extra features" which hardly anyone ever takes out of the case.

Such a mega rip-off.

No way Jose, Ergot all the way. Seriously if you really want to get whacked out of your head use ergot, but only in small doses. It'll keep you busy for quite a few days. Just remember that the Salem Witch Trials were the possible result of mass ergot poisoning. In small amounts it'll cause those trippy affects and paranoia you want, but if you do too much you may suffer from spasms, stillborns, cardiovascular shutdown, etc. Enjoy ;)

Ergot is just LSD with loss of circulation to the extremities.

You can mod your DVD player so it skips past, but you have to know how to install a mod chip.

Truly, the eventual fate of all but the highest-end VCRs of yesteryear...my porn vids are propping up that technology here as well. There's no comparison to DVD.

DVD’s are always better. If you don’t like a Movie then you can always use it as a coaster to put your coffee on. VHS tapes are just too large and unstable to be used as a coaster.

If I'm recording TV (or anything else for that matter), VHS.

If I'm watching movies, DVD.

I defend VHS for as long as I could be God, they really aren't that good now compared to the DVDs, unless you like classics they haven't made into DVDs yet or don't own a DVD player.

I defend VHS for as long as I could be God, they really aren't that good now compared to the DVDs, unless you like classics they haven't made into DVDs yet or don't own a DVD player.

A few good reasons to like VHS:

VHS tape: three hours, six if you use long play, and cheap.
DVD: Hm.. couple of hours, tops. Not so cheap, especially if you buy the rewriteable ones.
Hard drive recorders: expensive, you can't pull the hard drive out and put another one in easily, and some even delete recorded programmes after a certain period of time.

VHS recorder: cheap.
DVD recorder: not cheap.
Hard drive recorders: WTF? Who do you think I am? David Beckham?

VHS vs Betamax argument: solved.
DVD- vs DVD+: still causing problems.
Hard drive recorders: you're stuck with one big "tape" inside the machine.

PAL/SECAM/NTSC: solved. Lots of VHS recorders understand multiple formats.
DVD regions: people are trying to make it illegal to have a multiregion player, or to hack your player to multiregion. As I recall, in the US it is illegal under the DMCA.

Of course, when it comes to what to rent from Blockbuster, I'll go DVD. Digital surround sound? Yes please ma'am.

But you can still download full length, dvd quality movies off a certain filesharing program. Not that I know anything about it.
