Joy and Dispair or No Emotions?

Would you prefer to live in a world where both joy and dispair exist in equal amounts or a world where no one was able to experience and feel either.
Personally i would prefer both joy and dispair rather than leading a half existance, but then i've never experienced true dispair close up, so i am probably very biased.
Both... emotions are the heart of humanity.

Joy and despair, no doubt

Though my mind may tell me differently, I know it's better to have joy and despair, and feel emotions than not. I have kind of blocked out my emotive qualities, and I'm trying hard to reclaim them. Life is much more fulfilling with those enjoyable, yet dangerous feelings.

lol
we cant not have emotions
killing our emotions is an emotional response. Emotions are just how we feel based on stimuli, you cant not experience stimuli, so you must have an emotional reaction.

I used to be naive. Or not really naive as I realised I was one. But I trusted everyone (until proven quilty). Then I met too many nasty persons and I became quite prejudiced. Now I trust everyone again and feel terrific! You have to be quite strong to be open for everyone but it's deffinately worth it.

Without emotions - particularly the extremes of emotion such as euphoria and despair - there would be no arts. Most of humanity's greatest artistic achievements (paintings, music, sculptures, etc) are the result of such emotions. I think the world would be a terrible place with no emotion, no art and no music. So I have to say bring on the chaotic emotional upheaval - it's good for the creativity of the species... ;)

Yes, but why the best songs (novels, paintings) are always about bad situations, emotions etc. Why sad songs are more popular than happy ones. Why it's easier to write lyrics about annoying ex-girlfriend than about the girl with whom you have a happy relationship?
I've always liked the idea of no emotions. Imagine a world where everyone did his or her job without anxiety, embarrasment, or any emotion. Like a race of super-intelligent ants. Imagine what we could accomplish.

A very dull world?
No seriously, I've had similar thoughts but I think how ever great it could be, it would never be worth it.
Please, could someone finally tell me how to spell think thought thought, teach taught taught, even though.... etc

With no emotions you wouldn't get bored!

Hey, I'm not bored anymore!
But have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the Brits at the moment.

I'm happy you brought this up, but sadly I don't know the answer.

Because it moves us. We empathise with the subject and experience emotion. We tend to feel stong empathy for someone in pain as it encourages us to help them - survival of our species going back to when we existed in small groups - whereas a happy person does not need help so the effect on us is less. Having said that there are also very moving forms of art based on joy. Religious music can be very powerful for example and is often about celebration.

Because problems are what make life interesting. Though people strive for happiness, it's not life and it's not fun.

Depends which one I get the most of.
I don't ask for much. a 51-49% ratio would make me happy.
Fortunately, I'm easy to please. That helps. :)
Say YAY for low standards! :D
