Im thankful for the fact that although I live in a capitalist nation that goes by the name of a Democracy, I still have free rights to call my own. Im thankful that people in charge still have some semblance of a conscience.

Ok, that is the European point of view, if you made a poll here, we would also prefer to live here rather than Europe. Almost everybody likes there country more than other countries its their home, no matter how bad in shape it is in. Not that the US is in bad shape, I was talking about countries such as Iraq, and other poor countries, lets hope for a quick end to that so called "war on terror." Not likely. But anyway my point is people like their home.

I can understand that point, but bear in mind that it's an internet poll accessible to not just Europeans, and it's still a significant number that have chosen that option over all the others...

Not that it's necessarily representative of the world as a whole :) But it does show problems with US foreign policy...

No, we're all pretty self-loathing in the UK, we all want to move to France.

The trick is getting the balance of self loathing right, so that you still loath the frogs more.

Actually, it is interesting that even modern complex societies have retained the tribal instincts of old - my people good, people over there evil.

I am of course only human, and not above such instincts, being grateful to fate for preventing me from growing up an American. :p

But I am reassured that there are those who can at least view their opinions critically and see their likely origins.
