Reall now, have you? If there is a life after this one, and it's soooo much better, why do we even have to deal with this one? Furthermore, have you thought about what it does to a child to raise them to believe that they are inherently evil, sinful, and that nothing in this world matters? And to continue, your beliefs are constantly seen as bigoted and hateful-so why continue with them?
While technically this is a mock thread, I still want some real answers.

already posted something like this, but it disappeared.
*smacks everyone on thread*
This is stupid, these threads don't help anything, and though I'm sure my post can also be construed as spam or not helpful, I just thought I should inform you of the situation:
Ignore the threads, or combat them on their own turf. Don't make new threads to be chopped down.

So what if you raise your child to believe their is life after death? At Church im not told to not bother with this life because in order to appreciate heaven you have to appreciate this life as well.
Bigoted and hateful? You havent elaborated on what you mean here. Love thy neighbour, give to the needy, tolerate people as they are?
What is bigotive and hateful about that?
I would suggest you talk with Christians personally instead of going on the opinions of your friends down the local bar or pub who have influenced your views and told you how to think.

Jesus seemed to think it was worthwhile. Christians as part of their belief structure have to attempt to be Christ like.
Furthermore, have you thought about what it does to a child to raise them to believe that they are inherently evil, sinful, and that nothing in this world matters?
1) If by "inherently evil, sinful" you are refering to original sin, then that effects them very little. That is just the knowledge that they will die
2) We also teach children that there is a way out of the sin-death cycle. That way is the man that is Jesus. He died that we might live with God in Heaven.
3) Somethings in this world do matter, but not temporary things. The things God tells us to do matter. It is those things that are important.
And to continue, your beliefs are constantly seen as bigoted and hateful-so why continue with them?
SEEN as. Note that SEEN as. Christian beliefs are not hateful or bigoted. Love the sinner hate the sin is not an exact biblical quote but it does describe what God does for his people and how in turn we should do to others.

Yes, I have. Which is why I strongly oppose Christians who are warlike, or ignorant, or Bible-thumping, or just plain obsessed. In order to be a true Christian, you must incorporate Christ's values into your ordinary life, let his ideals become yours.
There is an increasing movement within Christianity in the United States to pretty much eliminate Jesus from the equation, get rid of his values, get rid of his damn pacificism, his support for the poor, and everything that goes against modern American society.
Jesus is forever, not just for an hour on Sunday. :@

But, wouldn't this put you on equal grounds with what you were acusing the athiests with? Life has meaning with or without an afterlife-to place everything on that is folly.

Interesting, you haven't read much Augustine I take it?
2) We also teach children that there is a way out of the sin-death cycle. That way is the man that is Jesus. He died that we might live with God in Heaven.
But, in doing so, tell them that there is only one group of people that will have a meaningful life, setting the stage for further bigotry.
3) Somethings in this world do matter, but not temporary things. The things God tells us to do matter. It is those things that are important.
And what does he tell you to do?

Depends on what part of the bible you read. Paul wasn't the nicest guy in the world.
What is your problem?
So what if you raise your child to believe their is life after death? At Church im not told to not bother with this life because in order to appreciate heaven you have to appreciate this life as well.
The issue isn't telling your child there's life after death, it's telling them that they are inherently evil, and that only a very small group of people will go to this afterlife.
Bigoted and hateful? You havent elaborated on what you mean here. Love thy neighbour, give to the needy, tolerate people as they are?
What is bigotive and hateful about that?
As I have stated above, it depends what part of the bible you read.
I would suggest you talk with Christians personally instead of going on the opinions of your friends down the local bar or pub who have influenced your views and told you how to think.
Uh, I used to be a christian, so I know a bit about the subject :p

I can't tell you how nice it is to hear that. Really, no sarcasm, it's good to see someone who places Jesus above all else.
