What do you think has been the best game sequel of 2004 so far? I have to vote for Halo 2, because of the sheer quality of the multiplayer.

I agree Halo 2 was a let down, so I gotta go with Half-Life 2. Easily the best PC FPS ever...

Half Life 2. Valve redefined the genre again. It's going to be a good six months before anything comes close to HL2, I reckon, excluding (or perhaps even including) games licensing the Source engine.

Only problem with Half Life 2 is the wait until Half Life 3.

I'll go with Halo 2 because I don't have Half-Life 2. Whjy should I bother? Half-Life was so great, who needs another?

Of all time, though, I think AoK, particularly The Conquerors expansion, is the best sequel.

I didn't particularly like the first Half-life, and who needs another Halo?

Burnout rocks....I seriously adore that game.

Depends on what you're asking. What's the best sequal in relevance to other games? Or, what's the best sequal in relevance to it's original?

I dunno the answer the the former, but to the latter, easily Half Life 2.

I was very fond of UT2004 when it came out. I had reservations about it to begin with - the graphics just looked too good to run on anything less than a £1500 system - but I was proved pleasantly wrong.

I don't know why the FIFA games are so popular - it's like EA get exactly the same game every year, twiddle it a bit and then charge £40 for it. Oh hang on, it's football. THAT'S why. If you change the names and the shapes of the players it's a WHOLE NEW GAME! Honest! Sorry, but.. yawn.

Doom 3 has atmosphere - I don't remember the last time I actually got scared playing a computer game. The improvements over Dooms 1 and 2 are immense. It's like you're genuinely playing an interactive horror B movie. No simple rehashes here.

Halo 2? FPS games are not meant to be played with a joypad. Sorry.

Half Life 2, couldn't comment, not played it yet. From what I've been told it's pretty damned good, but I'll reserve judgement until I have a copy of it in my greasy paws.

So yeah. uhm, "other".

I own FIFA 2005 and it kicks ass. I also see that I'm the only one who's voted for it so far. Next is GTA San Andreas. Halo 2 sucks ass, so does half-life 2.

well, the highest rated (according to Game Informer) sequel of the year was Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. But, I am still a fan of Halo 2, and as such I vote there.

Halflife 2, because even though I like Halo 2 more, I don't think it's as good as Halo 1, whereas I believe Halflife 2 is better than the first Halflife, making it a better sequel.

Rome Total War - if it counts as a sequal, seeing as its the latest game in the Total War series, after Medieval Total War and Shogun Total War.

The game on it's own isn't that amazing, it's only when you start modding that things really get going. :mp5:

Doom 64 with smaller levels and more eye candy.

PS - Apparently your character is too stupid to hold both flashlight and pistol at the same time. He also can't seem to use duct tape to strap it onto his machine gun.

In terms of improvement, definitely San Andreas. The amount of n00 stuff is astounding.

Swimming, mountain biking, and skydiving
Fitness (Fat, Muscle, Stamina, Max HP)
Gang recruitment and turf wars
New side-missions (Truckin', Quarryin', Pimpin', Home Invadin', Train Conductin', Valet Parkin')
Even more vehicles, including farm and construction equipment and a fighter jet
Stealth missions and stealth kills
New weapons: silenced 9mm and homing missile
Experience levels for most guns
Fully customizable wardrobe
Car modifications
Girlfriends and dating
Two-player action
Samuel L. Jackson

Now don't get me wrong: the other games in the poll are good, perhaps better than SA. But as a sequel, this one undoubtedly represents the biggest leap forward in a single installment.

Ah, you mean you're pissed because you can't pirate it?

The cracked versions were available for download almost on the day of release.

Try "because it's pointless, relies on someone else's servers working properly, and punishes legitimate buyers while the pirates sit and giggle."

Contrast that with UT2004, which has sold enough to make Epic a very happy company, and has a very primitive DRM. With the addition of the latest patches, the DRM is all but removed - allowing you to directly copy from hard drive to hard drive, run with no CD in the drive, all the funky stuff.

And yet no piracy problem. Go Steam, eh?
