Apparently, it lacks an English department as well.

More to the point however, who, in the hell, gave Exeter an university.

There are only three real universities in England. Oxford, Hull, and Newcastle (formerly King’s Durham).

No, there's very definitely an English department. And Exeter University is very well established, actually - unfortunately, it's run by trained monkeys.

Hull's a dump.
Newcastle is full of public school Durham rejects.

I think you missed out Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Cambridge, University College London, Imperial, Bristol, Leeds, ...

I don't know, but it was £10m earlier, and then 17 bids got wiped off and it dropped to £30-something thousand. Now it's up to £7m again.

All rubbish schools.

And Birmingham? WTF. Do they even have writing there yet?

Also, how could you put UCL over KCL, honestly, as far as "red-bricks" go KCL is clearly superior.

I'm applying for uni at the moment. Trust me, there are a LOT of real universities in England and it's bloody difficult to choose one.

I didn't. I just mentioned a few good ones, that's all. And I think you'll find that Birmingham is in the Russell Group, and they're also one of the best sporting universities going.

You seem to have missed Durham, and I seem to remember you making unworthy comment about the U of D on another thread...grrrr!!! Although, to be fair, I would expect no less from someone who considers King's College Durham to be a real university...

And chicken pi: choose Durham - it is excellent! A collegiate university really is an excellent thing, and the only other collegiate universities are Oxbridge...

Nonsense, Newcastle has a world class medical school, dental school and life sciences department. It also has the best naval architecture school in the world, as well as pretty damn good agriculture dept.

(It's classics dept. also beats the shit out of Dun. these days.)

On the other hand, Durham is known for nothing.

If you have your heart set on a colliegate system, I recomend Fordham in the US.

The rest are rubbish, apart from hull.

And yes I am from the US.

Then again, my brother went to Durham, and he came out a right arrogant git.

Yeah that's right you go to the med/dent/naval/agric schools, and they are just full of durham rejects.

Oh thats, right they are not. And they needed more A level points in the first place, (well except for agric).

So what does Durham do again, divinity - ? , I hear there is a big demand for that.

Alright, keep your hair on.

I'm only winding you up. Contrary to your complete ignorance of all but a handful of universities in Britain, almost every institution on this septic isle has at least one course it is very good at.

Want to do engineering? Why, Manchester and Southampton are pretty good bets, along with Birmingham, Nottingham, Cardiff... quite a long list, that one.

Forestry? Go to Bangor.

Business courses? How about Aston Business School?

Want to find the largest university library in Britain? Is it any of the universities you mentioned? No. It's the John Rylands Library in Manchester.

Teaching? Well, er, the best two are supposed to be, erm, Cambridge, and erm, Exeter.

I don't know every university's strengths and weaknesses, but I don't write off every university I haven't heard of either.

Newcastle is still the: best city; the best university; and the best goddamn place in the whole UK.

You're only saying that because girls go out wearing nothing but bibs and belts in the middle of winter.

Best place in the UK? You obviously never went to the Westcountry.
