Huh. Ok, I'll start us off. What series/movie/book has had more of an overall effect on your outlook on life? As for myself, I think Babylon 5 and Dune are tied for 1st, with Star Wars coming in at a close 3rd.

Definitley the Star Wars tale of Boba Fett book.

Coming strictly from a video game perspective, I can't stand Boba Fett. Just because he's EVERYWHERE. But ignoring my bias, what was so good about the book?

If you mean plotwise, it is because It is all about Boba Fett making a comeback from the Sarlacc after he blows it up and almost dies. All while everyone is SURE he is dead.

If you mean impact wise- it just shows that Once great, Always great.

PPS. You can't stand Boba Fett?! You weak-minded poo-joo!

I liked him the first time. In ESB and RotJ. But he just doesn't go away. Ever. He's in the first movies which completely killed my love for Star Wars. Jeeze, I mean, there's even Fett armor in Knights of the Old Republic! The game takes place 4,000 years before the movies! The only reason I still like Star Wars in general is Knights of the Old Republic. Why? Because George Lucas has nothing to do with it. It was made by Bioware, a company much superior to LucasArts. BUT THERE'S STILL BOBA FETT EVERYWHERE!

1) *slaps you across the face for not knowing what you are talking about* THINK!!!!!!! KOTOR takes place thousands of years before Boba exsisted!!!!! It isn't "Boba Fett" armour! It is MANDALORIAN ARMOUR!!! Which is when the game takes place (during Mandalore's army time) Jango just happened to get his hands on some (long story) and Boba inherited it when he died! There were hundreds of thousands of sets of it floating about during KOTOR! But during the Galactic Civil War, there were an approxamated 12 sets in the galaxy.

2) Do you just not want any ROTS spoilers or are you just [once again] being blasphemous?

Dude, I own the game. There is a single set of very powerful armor called "Fett Armor". I'm assuming it belong to an ancestor of Boba Fett. Mandelorian armor is a little more common - there are multiple sets of it in the game. I can't check it right now - I'm at work.

Wait, I found it. This is from a walkthrough.

Damn, one of my favourite computer games is Starflight 2, made all the way back in 1989. Who needs great graphics when you have a decent plot and gameplay? I also like the Civ series, Alpha Centauri, Total Annihilation, etc. But sometimes, one should relieve themselves of anxiety with a nice game of Doom, Star Wars Doom, Aliens Doom, or Doom: Evil Unleashed.

As for books, it's hard to go past Robert Jordan and Carl Sagan, two brilliant authors.

Ah, a trick question.

Sinclair goes on to become Valen (sp-?), so he is indispensible.

Sheridan is the strategic genius that brings victory in the shadow war.

Delenn is needed to bring the whole thing together, (and allow Sinclair to change to a minbari)

But I would say D. other.

Without Lando Molari, the whole show would have been so much more boring. (Especially when he fights with G'kaar). :)

MYST! I'm a big oldschool point-click adventure game junkie (Monkey Island and LOOM are my favorites, I don't care what you say about LOOM being confusing), and when MYST came out, I got submerged beyond any rescue.

What's wrong with La Blue Girl? While it's not exactly erudite, sophisticated erotic content, I don't see any harm in relieving ones more unusual, taboo, or harmful-if-enacted fantasies via animated entertainment. Better that than rape, eh?

I know exactly how you feel with Riven. It killed Myst like Ep. I killed Star Wars. But it's ok. The books rocked. As for the last two games, I'll see soon enough. I just got a new computer after five weeks of being unplugged (except here at work). I bought Myst IV, and I'm playing Exile first. So far Exile is a lot better than Riven, and Myst IV is supposedly made for Myst junkies who wanted a step back from the 2nd and 3rd games. That's the whole reason I bought it.

Sadly, I've never played Loom and very little of Monkey Island. I was a Mac user back then.

On anime... For starters, I suggest for beginners Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Those are both series - about 5 to 8 DVD's worth. If you're willing to fork out the money for 18 DVDs, Kenshin is very good but a bit slow. It's a love-it-or-hate-it kind of anime. If you like crazy humor, go for Excel Saga.

For stand-alone movies, I recommend Ghost in the Shell. It may be the single best anime movie ever. Some will probably disagree, but my statement remains. Blockbuster sucks when it comes to anime, but all of the above titles can be found in video rental places.

To further beef up my geek resume:

-I own enough books to cover an entire wall of my fairly large bedroom (my being a senior in high school)
-I acquired many of these books by working as a shelf stocker at a used bookstore, being paid exclusively in used books
-I am fluent in several forms of C, Java, JavaScript, some PERL, XML, and CSS
-I read several novels/nonfic books and an average of eight graphic novels each week
-I have an overly swelled ego
-I'm on the brink of obsession with all things Japanese, and have been for some time. I speak a moderate amount of Japanese, and have a sizable collection of Japanese music, animation, comics, art books, games (including dating games), imported cultural artifacts, toys and models, and even some Japanese clothing.
- I am able to speak and write at a basic level in High Gothic.
-Did I mention my unhealthily inflated ego?

Sure, if you're into teeny-bopper, lowbrow popular anime, stuff like Trigun and Kenshin is great. Unfortunately, most of the best sophisticated, adult-oriented animation from Japan is little known in the United States, and much of it has never been released Stateside.
I agree, of course, the Ghost in The Shell is among the best animated cinema of all time - there's no denying that. The new GiTS movie is awful in every way except for beautiful CG graphics, but I can't wait to see the new 3DCG Appleseed movie (www.appleseed.jp). It's cel-shaded 3D, the script is a direct adaptation of Shirow's manga, the music is wonderful, and it's bound to be an all-around great movie. I just hope they don't screw up by allowing Disney to get its filthy, putrid hands on the dubbing like they usually do with movies this big.

Meh. Plastic don't hurt.

There was also once this anime-I didn't get its name.... A giant penis popped up out of the ground. the movie was all about mail genetalia. It was very disturbing.

And this is exactly the kind of thing that puts me off. In addition to the lack of gillian anderson.

Huh. Ok, I'll start us off. What series/movie/book has had more of an overall effect on your outlook on life? As for myself, I think Babylon 5 and Dune are tied for 1st, with Star Wars coming in at a close 3rd.

Well, it's my goal to read every C.S. Lewis book ever written. Also, I've been intrigued with Easter Island since I was 9 years old, and have researched it quite a bit. I guess those are my two geekiest qualities.

Disturbing? Try Tenshi ni Narumon (I Wanna Be an Angel). That's fcking disturbing, mark my words. Incest between sugary, cheerful little children who look even younger than they are, all sorts of unconventional relationships, tons of child nudity, and all of it with not a tad of sardonic humor, not even a twit.

Where did you go? Why did you quit using MAChines of divine inspiration? You poor, lost little thing.

MYST IV is also supposed to open the game up to a wider audience by making it more plot-oriented and including a lot more cinema-style content, and bringing the overall difficulty down a notch.
Yeah, RIVEN was sort of twisted up backwards and gnarly, and it kind of hit me flat. Myst III, though, is fantastic and utterly wonderful, and Myst IV should be awesome as well - though short, the demo rocks.

Geek= Science+sci Fi+computers-athletic Ability

A true geek formula should also include "alternative" sense of humur and roleplaying as well as a strong belief in things like the existance of true formulas. Sun tan and considerable amounts of perfume could come in on the "other" side.

Hey, let's make a system for grading each factor. Like 3p for knowledge corresponding to a bachelor in science 5p for a master and 10 for a PhD. Note that under no circumstances should chemistry be considered as a completely true science like math, physics or signal treatment, deduct 2 points if the knowledge has chemistry infringements.

Also adding systems-scheming and having a great hope in launching big scale overenthusiastic ideas to multiple users. And the urge of trying to communicate in other languages :)

And a never-ending splurt of ideas...
