"HONG KONG: China has deployed up to 150,000 troops on its border with North Korea to deter Pyongyang’s nuclear build-up and to stifle mounting violence from rogue North Korean soldiers, a report here said Sunday.

Hong Kong’s Sunday Morning Post cited an unidentified security source in China as saying five divisions of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops had been deployed in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, bordering North Korea, since last month.

Large troop movements and new military barracks have also been seen in the border towns of Hanchun, Tumen, Kaishan, Sanhe and Baijing, while air force jets have frequently been seen flying over the capital Yanji, some 40 kilometres from the border, the report said."

That's not good...

I had been under the impression North Korea and China were on good terms with eachother... apparently I was wrong.

Anywho, it'd be interesting to see how this all unfolds...

I'm visiting China next summer though (I'm also Chinese xD), so hopefully things don't blow up before then.

Commy on Commy violence? I think not. Use your heads, China is North Korea's only ally.

China is more an ally of the US I think. It's difficult to purchase anything not made there.

The US must invade China now!!!! Before it's to late and they get their hands on N-Korea's nukes.

I'm in FX Speech so I've read tons on this topic. I don't think China will invade, but they will pressure Kim Jong Il to stop this lunacy. China doesn't want another Korean War on the peninsula as it would be bad for business and China is trying to open up trade and a war would threaten it. China will not support North Korea in a second war, but there is a chance that some stray missiles would strike Chinese ships. Either way, the PRC doesn't want a nuclear North Korea.

China and N.Korea aren't on that good a term. Mainly because so many N.K's attempt to flee by crossing the heavily armed border between NK and China. They then make their way to Beijing and try to get into any Embassy they can to claim refugee status.
China doesn't like it cause they think it makes them look bad to the World. And N.Korea doesn't like losing their citizens cause they don't want to admit how dire the situation really is there. They blame each other for it.

I don't think anything will happen. It's probably China just flexing it's muscle cause they're planning on going into further talks soon.
Either that or they've heard that something's afoot in NK. Recently some reports have come out saying Kim Il has had his pictures taken down from government buildings. They first said it was to clean them, now they're saying it's a complete lie and they haven't been removed. But independent reports from the few foreigners there have confirmed that the pictures have been removed.
The general feeling is that if he's ordered his pictures removed it could indicate a change of power coming. Remember, he's a cult of personality there, so this is a major event. It'd be akin to Mao's pictures being removed during the 1960's in China.
If it is true, then China's wise to deploy a few divisions on the border. Perfect time for a mass exodus.

There is this cool thing called reading between the lines.

China has put its troops there not because they want to invade NK, but because they know it is on the verge of collapse. (And they would know if anyone would).

It is fairly apparent that there is some form of internal turmoil in NK right now, and China is just pre-positioning to guard its interests. (As has the US).

If it does collapse however, GWB is going to look pretty damn good. (Not that he really had any part in it).

Yeah, There could be a lot of internal turmoil in the NK goverment and no one would know.

Its not as simple as "commies fighting" Firstly North Korea may portrey itself as a communist state it is not the communist state marx had invisioned and Kim himself is living in his palaces that would make saddams palaces look like shacks, while is people can't feed themselves. He loves western films and culture too. If you think about they have been acting like a monarchy.

China on the other hand, has become an authoritarian capitalist state and is very very slowly moving towards some form of democracy( what form is yet to be seen) . The only thing Communist about the Communist party of China is its name. If they were really communist would they be allowing western capitalist pigs :) work there people to death. Granted this has helped to raise hundreds of millions out of poverty and has set china down the path of being a developed nation in 30-50 years and a potentual superpower.

The leadership was smart enough to realize 20 years ago if they did'nt do anything to improve the standard of living they would lose power like that of communist states did in eastern europe and russia.

Actually, i'd beg to differ. Marx believed that Socialism had to come about within a Capitalist state (Opposed to Lenin who believed that the jump from autocratic monarchy to socialism could be made successfully) It's my hunch that the leaders in China are following this guideline.

Although i'm aware of marx's theory, i doubt if the current chinese administration, flush with the spoils of capitalism believe in Communist theory.

This is a widespread misconception. If it came to war between North Korea and America, China would either take America's side or remain neutral.

China may subsidise North Korea, but they are getting tired with their feeding hand being bitten by the NK dictator. They are also angry that NK spies assassinate local government officials in the North-East of China.

China's economic relationship with the USA is too good to risk over North Korea.

I don't understand why people don't get it..

China isn't Communist anymore.

China is now a fascist nation. Communism came to a slow end after Mao's death and Deng Xiaoping (an idiot) becoming leader. After all, Xiaoping is the one that said: "To be rich is glorious."

Secondly, North Korea has ever right to pursue whatever programs they want. The United States has NO RIGHT AT ALL to tell any other nation not to pursue WMDs and other things when the US itself is producing and developing new WMDs, such as mini-nukes.

I would'nt call China a Fascist nation, Authoritarian yes, fascist no. And Deng Xiaoping is not an idiot, he improved the quality of life for hundreds of millions. Mao is the idiot, If he had contunued on his path china would be an even more horrible place today. Life in china is slowly getting better for its people everyday thanks to Deng's reforms
