I'm looking to put together a list of songs critical of war. Hands down my favorite such song is "War Pigs (http://www.ram.org/contrib/warpigs.html)" by Black Sabbath. Apparently Ozzy penned that song, which I find a little hard to believe given that these days he doesn't seem remotely interested in matters of world affairs. I strongly recomend reading the lyrics to that song. Besides that, I've got:
-"One" and "Disposable Heros" by Metallica
-"Rooster" by Alice in Chains
-every other song by Megadeth
I know there's more, but I can't think of too many right now. Can I get some help here?

What about the song "War", from the Vietnam era?

Panzerlied.
Excellent song.
1. "The Unknown Soldier" by The Doors....
2. Many of the songs on Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album....
3. "Zombie" by The Cranberries
..That's all I can think of at the moment...
And yes. 'War Pigs/Luke's Wall' was penned by Ozzy. You have to remember; that song was written in the Vietnam era. It was hard not to have music influenced by it.

I think "Fortunate Son" by CCR is appropriate to most wars these days.

^^^You got that right
Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, they’re red, white and blue.
And when the band plays hail to the chief,
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, lord,
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no senator’s son, son.
It ain’t me, it ain’t me; I ain’t no fortunate one, no,
Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don’t they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no millionaire’s son, no.
It ain’t me, it ain’t me; I ain’t no fortunate one, no.
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give?
Ooh, they only answer more! more! more! yoh,
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no military son, son.
It ain’t me, it ain’t me; I ain’t no fortunate one, one.
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain’t me, it ain’t me, I ain’t no fortunate son, no no no,.

In my opinion, The remake of War Pigs by Faith No more is superior. I like Black Sabbath and think thier version of War Pigs is Kickass but I have to go with Faith No More. It truly is one of the few remakes of a song that are equal to or better that the original. I also like The Marines marching song. I forget what it is exactly called but it has a line in it about " from the sands of Iwo Jima to the shores of Tripoli" It is a really cool song as far as patriotism goes. "Hero" by Ministry is awsome too!

That is one of my favorite songs of all time, the german version that is. The english translation is not even the same song it is so different.
When the Tigers Broke free, by pink floyd. Very touching, it sounds almost as if he's crying, its about how the lead singer lost his father defending anzio bridge (u may recognize the name from the Day of Defeat hl mod dod_anzio) very famous battle. His dad died during that battle when the lead singer was like, a few months i believe. Never met his dad. The last line was really good. I believe it was the last line. "and that's How the British High Command took my daddy away from me..." Short, bittersweet, wrenching. Listen to it. It's on their album Final cut.
System of a Down - BOOM!
Green Day - American Idiot
The Offspring - Baghdad
Beastie Boys - In A World Gone Mad
Lenny Kravitz and Kadim Al Sahir - We Want Peace
In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we fought the Bloody British near the town of New Orleans
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to running
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
We look down the river and we saw the British come
And there must have been a hundred of them beating on the drums
They stopped so high and they made the bugler ring
While we stood besides the cotton bales and we didn't say a thing
They ran to the briars and they ran to the brambles
And they ran to the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch them
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Old Hickory said: We can take them by surprise
If we didn't fire out muskets till we look them in the eyes
We held our fire till we saw the faces well
Then we opened up squirrell guns and really gave them hell!
We fired our cannon till the barrell melted down
So we grabbed an aligator and we fired another round
We filled his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off the 'gator lost his mind.
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to running
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

eve of destruction by barry mcguire
The eastern world, it is explodin’.
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
Take a look around you boy
It’s bound to scare you boy
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drum, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

I agree with the person who said "Masters Of War"- Bob Dylan. Eddie Vedder singing it is incredible!
I also like "Fiddle and the Drum"- Joni Mitchell. A Perfect Circle, or should I say Maynard, does a really good a capella version of this song.
My last would be "Imagine" - John Lennon. I know people don't instantly think of it as an anti war song but it has so much of that in it.

Actually I'm a born and bred Canadian.
And I have both English and German versions.
Although I have to admit, I don;t see it as ANTI-war, but rather as can be taken either way. More like the message of "It happens.. yet, we're still here as humans".
war pigs is good shit, but i'm gonna have to go with:
A.D.D.- system of a down
boom!- system of a down
10 years of service- dropkick murphys
the fighting 69th- dropkick murphys
imagine- a perfect circle

voice of the voiceless- rage against the machine
war within a breathe- rage against the machine
testify- rage against the machine
