One hell of a day at my school
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/11/24/school.stabbing.ap/index.html
This was at my school. It was a half day so I'm home now, but damn. I didn't see anything, but the numbers given by CNN are wrong. The number stabbed was 7. They were all freshmen and it happened in a Spanish class. I have to go out now, I'll be back soon.
I don't know anyone involved and I guess that is good, but damn you think it can never happen at your school and then it does. :( All of those injured are going to fully recover and that is good.
I haven't seen the scene since I was in my 1st hour class all day on lockdown.

I got stabbed once in a fight with a swiss army knife. Right in the shoulder.
I got stabbed once in a fight with a swiss army knife. Right in the shoulder.
The knife used was probably larger than one of those. I 1st found out when one of the students in that class came running down the hall screaming that someone in her Spanish class was hitting people with a sword. (It was knife, not a sword by the way, but she was probably panicking.)
There was a sniper in a belltower at my uni a couple of years back (I was still in high school, fortunately...but I avoid that tower nonetheless ;))
I used to carry a knife to school. It's nice to see kids nowadays taking care of business in such a personal one on one manner. (just kidding about that last part) I'm glad you are safe.

For some reason, I think about the middle school boy who was shot at Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie, Md. during the sniper shootings in the Washington, D.C. area. Bowie is REALLY close to where I live, so that spooked me. When I was on the way home the day of the middle school shooting, I saw that there was a shooting that day at a KFC in New Carrollton (which is where I go to catch the bus home). I took a cab home that night even though my bus was supposed to arrive in a few minutes.
Scary world we live in.
I heard something from a neighbor, so of course this may be untrue, but some of those wounded were hurt when they tried to tackle and disarm the bastard. We have a police officer in our school full time who difused the situation in the end. It is a shame that the bastard didn't threaten the officer, then our prison system wouldn't have to deal with that bastard. Sure the janitors would have a mess to clean up, but in the end it would be for the better.

Nothing like that has ever really happened before at any school I've gone to. But when I was in elementary school, everyone at a middle school was freaking out, because somebody sprayed some pepper spray in the vents and a bunch of kids were feeling sick and passing out. And on 9/11/01 there was a bomb threat at the local high school, but it ended up just being a bad practical joke.

Please let us know what you can find out about the kid. I'm particularly interested in whether or not he's on any anti-depressants.
Well, this just proves that we should give guns to all kids in schools so they can fend for themselves when this happens.

Are you feeling O.K., IDF? Have you got someone you can talk to face-to-face about this stuff? For what it's worth, my advice is: Don't bottle it up, talk about how this has freaked you out.

I'm OK, I was in my study hall all day and we talked about it. It helps not knowing anyone involved. I'll try and find out more about who did it. Of course since he is a minor info on him won't be released, but it will leak eventually. CNN and Fox News along with local sources have said they don't have a motive yet. I bet the cops have figured it out, but they won't release it yet.

Ah it happened in a spanish class, that explains it. You can only push a kid so far

LOL! Maybe that will teach the State Assembly to stop forcing foreign language requirements.

Spanish isn't really a foreign language in the US, is it?
It used to be, and then you acquired California :-)

Cool, I'm glad you had a chance to talk it out at school. I've witnessed very little real-world violence in my life, but it's usually disturbed me a bit.
And yeah, getting the info might be tricky, but the cops have got a procedure to follow, and most stuff, except maybe the attackers name, will probably come out eventually.

Even his name will come out as there were 30 students in that class. When we get back into school on Monday after Thanksgiving Break I'll find out. Maybe even sooner. There will be a press conference in a few hours at the hospital. The good news is that everyone is supposed to be released from the hospital by this evening. I know the cops have to hold back stuff due to procedures and the rules when dealing with minors.
The only person left in the hospital is the bastard who did it. He got tackled by teachers and I guess they did a good job if he's still in the hospital. I bet he tries to sue the school.

If you knew the people who tackled him, you would laugh when reading the articles.
I just found out what room it occured in. It was a room where I had my Spanish II pre-IB class in Freshman year. Damn. The rumor mill is still running rampant on IM with all of my friends. I keep getting info that is coming from my friend's, friend's, well you see where I'm going.

My highschool was rather prone to traffic fatalities, we had I think 5 or 6 students die in car wrecks in my Jr and Sr. year.
One particularly nasty one happened during lunch (we had off-campus lunch for upperclassmen) and they went on the loudspeakers to inform the school that there had been a serious accident and several students were involved.
It was a bizzare thing trying to piece together which friends and acquaintances you had seen after lunch in passing and which you hadn't, and wondering if of the people you had'nt seen, some you never would again.
Sombering day, really was.

Damn, we had a lot last year. We don't have an off campus luch but several students or recent graduates were killed in crashes. In most cases they were doing stupid things like hill jumping, which is common here. There is a hilly road known as "Roller Coaster Road" that people go fast on, sometimes over 100 mph to jump it. It is narrow and tree lined so they too often end up in a tree. It is a really sad and dumb way to die.

These guys were going something like 80 on a 40mph road and lost control, thankfully I didnt know any of them in the end.

From the NWI-Times report.
"He wasn't yelling, he wasn't screaming," Rasmussen said. "He was in another place."
Having dealt with disturbed kids I can well understand that comment. Sometimes they're so wrapped up in what's going on in their head that they're unable to see what they're doing to those around them. And this can be quite young kids, too. Being around 'em can be dangerous, particularly as they get older and bigger.
For all that, many of 'em are nice kids when they're not losing control. Just glad he wasn't shot by some well-meaning gun-toting thug.
(this shouldn't be interpreted as not being concerned for those injured - though of course I'm sure some will read it as such)

I hope you're alright etc. although my school has at least one stabbing a year and we've never made the big news(probably because we're a highly diverse school in an area overshadowed by Miami). Still a damn shame though.
