U.S., Syria Quarrel Over Iraq Border
Washington Times (SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt NOV. 24)

The United States and Syria exchanged sharp words yesterday over what the Bush administration says is Damascus' failure to fully honor its commitment to prevent terrorists, weapons and financing from crossing its border into Iraq. The terse exchange came during a meeting between Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Sharaa, both of whom attended a major international conference on Iraq's political future at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheik. Washington and Iraq's interim government reached an agreement with Damascus last month on ways to patrol the porous Iraqi Syrian border, which is a major entry point for militants and money headed for the Iraqi insurgency.

Wouldn't it be funny if Syria complained about the state of the American border with Mexico? :p

Do you get the feeling that Colin Powell hasn't gone yet because he wants one last holiday on the tax payer?

Nahh he wants to try and solve something rather then break something.

I don't get this thing that says that other countries should stop people from leaving their territory...

Why should Syria have to stop these people? It's the problem of the US, not Syria. It's just like Fox News and other Republican media outlets who claim that Canada is not stopping terrorists from entering the US. WTF? We Canadians should not have to spend money to stop people from leaving Canada. It's the Americans that have to do it, not Canada.

Would the US accept a treaty that says the US has to stop people from coming into Canada? Yeah right.

It's called "living up to your comittments." Syria pledged to take action to stop the use of their border with Iraq by terrorists. They didn't. So we're fussing at them. End of story.
