What Happens If Quebec DOES Seperate?

For those of you who have become aquainted with me... My past few threads sucked... mainly cuz I guess I'm too tolerant and understanding with religion and war so there was no hope that any arguments would start...yay me...

So let's see if I can do this one right this time... Okay here's the scenario... What Happens If Quebec DOES Seperate from Canada?

What do you think will happen?

Well personally...since I live in Nova Scotia...that leaves me in the hotseat... I'll be seperated from the rest of Canada...
I've heard some "rumors" that may point that Atlantic Canada would just be annexed by the U.S.

I guess I can't loose in a sense...
1.) If we end up with the US I guess that's cool... I mean I'd pay less taxes and being a reservist would blow less...unless I'm sent to Iraq or something...

2.) If they don't...being a reservist blows and I pay more taxes but I get free health which I need because I hurt myself alot... There's not alot to do in Lawrencetown and doing stupid things that involve BB guns and explosives gets you hurt...

Anyway let's hear from the rest of you...

Well, I live in the deep south of America, and I'm fiercly patriotic. Even though the city was Canadian...and not to mention French...I would say I think it would be awesome. And it would set an example to all cities.

Quebec realizes, "well, now thats done, we're screwed cosidering we still rely on Ontario as our primary trade partner, and americans don't like a french nation right above theirs.....hum maybe we should join confederation again?"

Well, the last time a referendum was held, one of the things that came up for the first time was the idea of partition. Basically, there's a lot of former Crown Land in Quebec that used to be administered by the Feds, which although is now administered by Quebec, technically belongs to First Nations people like the Cree, Iroquois, Montagney, and Innu. Those lands would revert back to Canada.

I also doubt whether the Atlantic provinces would be permitted to be left with no overland access to the rest of Canada. Outaouais, Western Quebec, The Eastern Townships would all vote to remain in Canada. It would just be question of a corridor through Gaspe to keep the provinces contiguous.

So don't go buying an American Eagle lawn ornament just yet.

i dont think it will ever happen, its like not working, every one says it would be great but doing nothing every day would suck.
but if they did i think most of Quebec would rejoin. most of the people in quebec lives on the strip that we see in old maps of upper and lower canada, the rest is home to mostly native bands and they would, most likely, stay with canada, we are good to them, so dont worry only the snootty ones would go. :)

Actually, I've heard this idea a number of times. It's funny, Quebec and Ontario...the old Lower and Upper Canadas. Our fates are inexorably intertwined aren't they? Even if all of Confederation were to collapse, those two provinces, perhaps more than any other, would ultimately end up partnered again.

Now that I think of it, they're just like an old married couple. Yikes.

Hm...Since we are so much alike, and we have the larges open border anywhere, why dont the US and Canda just merge to create one big nation?

If Qubec ever does break away they will face economic crisises. Also History has show a growing migration and population increase of non-French speaking and pro Canada persons.
THere are several posible results:
1. A wierd alt-reality situation where the pro Canada forces would seek reunification with Canada.
2. Scotland for centuries has sought indepence from the Comonwealth the result was a situation where Scottland was allowed to goveren all domestic issues with own parliemnt but still had to supply taxes, soldiers, etc. This would probally be the most liekly result
3. Economic hardship contrasted with Canada and the incressed internal stress by reunificationsists could create a harsh system of politlce repression furthering the divide (2nd least likely.)
4. A perpetual civil war( most unlikely)

That idea has been thrown around before...

The problem is we are not as alike as we like to think...

The cultures in Canada vary depending on the region... And not all of them are friendly to the U.S.

I know as a Maritimer...I personally don't give a dam anymore... Considering nobody really cares about us anyway... The Maritimes are often forgoten when it comes to Canada... So whether we sign up with the US or stay with Canada... I don't think much is gonna change...
