Is there anybody else here that collects coins? If so, how long have you been collecting, about how big is your collection, and whats your favorite country to get coins from.

I have been collecting for a LONG time. Even before I was born. When my mom found out that I was a boy, she started a coin collection and it got to consist of about 40 coins. She put it in a "fireproof" safe, then our house burnt to the ground and so did the safe...:( But anyways, I re-disovered coins when I was about 8. Ever since I have been 8 I have loved collecting coins. So, as you can probably imagine I have a pretty big collection. I just recently bought about 200 more coins off of ebay. And I would have to say that my favorite to collect is either GBP (Great British Pounds) or the Euro. I have a 2002 Uncirculated set of German Euros :D

I had a big coin collection, lots of european pre-euro coins and some notes. I had a coin from Swaziland, and a medal from the Denver mint. All of these were stolen in a burglary about three months ago.

I hate people sometimes.

Oh, wow that really sucks. What you should have done, is write down the serial numbers to the notes, and then report it missing. That way, if they try to pawn it, or sell it, then they would be caught.

I tried that. I had the serial numbers from the 1935 silver certificate and the russian imperial currency. They haven't come back with anything. The sad part of it is, they also took a money clip my brother sent me when he was little. That meant more than the money.

I used to collect coins, must still have them somewhere. I tried to get coins from as many countries as possible, most of them aren't really old.
And i like banknotes: i have notes from the ukraine and former yugoslavia when those countries suffered very heavy inflation. Some notes have over 10 digits :D

I've got a load of old English coins, including an 1873 silver sixpence. It's hardly a collection, but some of them are pretty neat.
I've also got a few old Soviet banknotes, but those just go with my collection of other Soviet items.

I have lots of Polish zloty, groszy, and zlotych that I brought over from Poland, and also because my grandmother saved a lot of them for us. We also have a ton of Polish currency from when my grandparents were younger as well.

I have other coins too, just a few I don't know anything about them, they're from:

Laos
Ghana
Yugoslavia
Austria
Germany
Palau
Vietnam
Spain
Britain

They span from 1952-2000

Not sure of anything else about them and I'm sure they're not rare, or worth anything really. I need to maybe do a bit of research though....

Thats a link to an auction on Ebay. Its for the comlpete 96 Euro coin collection in an album. The current price is $29.99+S&H. But the reserve is not yet met, meaning that its not to the minimum price the seller is offering the item at. It also has 3 days left for bidding.

I just went through my foreign coin collection and I seem to have a lot of money from Saudi Arabia and Israel. I also have this huge coin from Panama ... 10 balboas ... says on the back "Ratificacion del tratado del canal de Panama" 1978. The thing's huge. I'd hate to have a pocketfull of these things.

I had some 1922 inflation money from Germany. I think it was a 5000 mark note. It was taken. I also had an example of the currency that was issued to US soldiers in Europe during WWII. My favorites, though, were two notes from Bhutan that were given to me by someone from there. Very hard to get.

My girlfriend's a flight attendant, so she has coins from all over the World, which is pretty cool. China, Hong Kong, India, South Africa, Euro, England, Canada, US, Taiwan, NZ, Aus, Japan, Dubai, Thailand, Korea....
That's off the top of my head.
Best thing to do if you want coins from round the World: Find yourself someone who works for an airline.

An old Landlord of mine (from a few years ago) had an amazing collection of artifacts in his basement, and one of the best displays was his collection of notes and coins. He had this beautiful old Inochine banknote which was HUGE! Like twice as big as a normal note. And incredibly colourful. Also lots of other notes from Asian from the 1930s (Siam, Malaya, etc). He had Papua New Guinea coins that have holes in the middle, so they could thread a wire through them to wear as necklaces. He had lots of prewar European notes (and one prewar Nazi note) because after WWI his father (who was in the North Auckland Mounted Infantry in Egypt) wandered around Europe for several years before heading back to NZ. He also had the writs that the NZ army gave out in place of money during WWI. He had nearly ever single low denomination note and coin that NZ put out during the 20th century.
Truly fantastic collection.

That sounds pretty cool! The only time I can get coins from around the world, is like off of ebay, or if I find a Canadian nickle, quarter, penny, or sometimes dime. You would be surprised to see how much of it actually gets used in America. The only other way to get them is from people around town. I live in a military town, so sometimes I can get some from neighbors, since they are marine and constantly leaving and going.

Same here! I've got coins from 400 BC to now, all nations, all metals, all sizes. From Aluminium to Gold, Ancient Greece to Modern. I'm building a Crusader era coin collection and still waiting for my Crusader gold Bezant.

The oldest I have is 1/8 OBOL (small silver blob) from Thrace 350 BC and 400 BC.

I like collecting notes more than coins. I'd love to set something up here so that I could get notes from other countries.

Along with the coins I got, I also got some notes. I got a total of 8 notes. 2 are from Poland, they are the same note 50 something. both from 1988 lol. Then i got a 10 New Pence and a 5 new Pence note from the British Armed Forces. I also got a Russian one! Its 100 something from 1993. Then I got some that I dont know where they are from. One has the same kind of writing as the Russian bill. I think its Ukrainian because I have seen the same word on the bill as on a Ukrainian coin I have. Then there is 50 Something from somewhere. It also has the same style alphabet as the Russian. But none of the words match up with the Russian or the other one. Then there is a weird one that has too different style alphabets on it. It has the russian style alphabet and what looks like to be Filipeno or Middle Eastern. I have no idea where its from. I was thinking maybe Thialand or the Philipenes.
