you know, i read these threads, day after day....and it seems like 90% of the people posting are in competition with each other to see who can sound the smartest. It gets OLD. Why are there so many redundant threads? "is God real?" "Why God isnt real", "thoughts of an Atheist", Thoughts of a Christian", "Is being gay a sin?" Is abortion a sin?" GOOD GRIEF! It seems Nation States is a place where people can come to argue with others online , when theyve run out of real life people to argue with. Everyone has their opinion. So why cant you all respect the differences that we have without pointing a finger and saying 'your wrong-i'm right." Its childish. I mean its really silly how some people in here will copy and paste things from a dictionary or encyclopedia in an effort to make themselves appear more intelligent than anyone else on the subject. Get over yourselves and realize that nobody knows everything. And if you need to argue that badly- go to law school and become an attorney.

It's called human nature. We have no other species capable of destroying us, so we destroy ourselves. The arguing on here is nothing more than the primitive contests to see who is stronger and the pack leader among animals.

Can you even name a time in history where people did not do this?

Even Grog the caveman would point at Urg and club him for being wrong. ;)

Ahh but a dictionary and an encyclopedia are tools. And what seperates us from the other animals is our tool usage capability.

Personally; I don't know nothing!

I wouldn't say that about NationStates, just the General forum.

when theyve run out of real life people to argue with. Everyone has their opinion. So why cant you all respect the differences that we have without pointing a finger and saying 'your wrong-i'm right." Its childish.

Productive debate is accomplished while respecting differences. Who cares if I think most people are wrong? That doesn't mean I don't respect them.

I mean its really silly how some people in here will copy and paste things from a dictionary or encyclopedia in an effort to make themselves appear more intelligent than anyone else on the subject.

I hope to God you are not talking about me, kid.

Get over yourselves and realize that nobody knows everything. And if you need to argur that badly- go to law school and become an attorney.

Or we could use the General forum in the manner it was intended to be used, which is much cheaper.

And as far as proving God exists, there probably is no proof that would satisfy an Atheist or non believer or whoever else questions his works. Youre all missing the point. If you worship God and believe in him -then thats all that matters. I love God and believe he exists and I dont need a scientific formula or some test tube theory to tell me otherwise. People who love god and pray and live their lives hoping to gain their reward in heaven, dont need physical proof. Its faith. Our faith is what keeps us going. And faith isnt dependant on physical proof. So please-try to find some different topics.
And for Gods sakes stop being so arrogant in your reponses. It just makes you look like an ass.

I agree. God forbid bid anyone try to sound intelligent. I mean the nerve of people. Why can't everybody just talk about the latest episode of Survivor? Jeez, you would think people here have some strange, wacked out notion that discussion and debate are important in democratic societies.

Can't people just shut up and go about the business of consuming goods and stop questioning political, philosophical, or religious issues that are really none of our business. After all that is what we have leaders for, isn't it?

You mean like this?

Your knowledge, or lack or knowledge of the law is amusing. I guess I can show you better than I can tell you. The dictionary defines rape as the following: (notice the word force )

rape

Pronunciation: (rAp), [key]
—n., v., raped, rap•ing.

—n.
1. the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse.
2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.
3. See statutory rape.
4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.
5. Archaic.the act of seizing and carrying off by force.

—v.t.
1. to force to have sexual intercourse.
2. to plunder (a place); despoil.
3. to seize, take, or carry off by force.

—v.i.
to commit rape.

rape

Pronunciation: (rAp), [key]
—n.
a plant, Brassica napus, of the mustard family, whose leaves are used for food for hogs, sheep, etc., and whose seeds yield rape oil.

rape

Pronunciation: (rAp), [key]
—n.
the residue of grapes, after the juice has been extracted, used as a filter in making vinegar.

ALSO- here is the legislative authorities definition of rape:
RAPE - The carnal knowledge of a woman by a man (or vice versa) forcibly and unlawfully against her will. The knowledge of the woman's person must be forcibly and against her will; and if her consent has not been voluntarily and freely given, (when she has the power to consent,) the offence will be complete, nor will any subsequent acquiescence on her part do away the guilt of the ravisher. A consent obtained from a woman by actual violence, by duress or threats of murder, or by the administration of stupefying drugs, is not such a consent as will shield the offender, nor turn his crime into adultery or fornication.

Everyone has their opinion. So why cant you all respect the differences that we have without pointing a finger and saying 'your wrong-i'm right." Its childish.
You are right: "Everyone has their own opinion." If everyone just keeps his or her opinions to his- or herself, than what use are they? If opinions are not expressed and stood up for, what do they matter? If knowledge is had but not shared, what use is it? The passing on of learning is one of social species' most important qualities, humans being the most advanced of all of them. And, besides, everyone's opinions will stagnate and never change if they aren't challenged. If you don't like reading it, don't. You have the power.

I mean its really silly how some people in here will copy and paste things from a dictionary or encyclopedia in an effort to make themselves appear more intelligent than anyone else on the subject.
Hmmm...I didn't know anyone did this. I don't ever consult outside sources just to pseudo-prove I'm intelligent or learned. I usually wouldn't need to if I did, anyways.

And if you need to argue that badly- go to law school and become an attorney.
Or we could use public fora for what they were intended for--honest and open discussion on topics that matter to the people discussing. I know this is a revolutionary idea, it's only been around since at least ancient Grecian times, but but try to get used to it. Try.

Did you ever see the movie 'I Love You, Alice B. Toklas' with Peter Sellers? There's a great bit where Sellers and his female co-star get into an argument over being 'unhip'.

-You're being very unhip.

-I'm being unhip? You're being unhip for saying that I'm being unhip.

Read what you posted. In fact didn't you just say "wow - I bet you were a hall monitor."

You are a total hypocrite, you complain about people cutting and pasting from dictionaries in order to act in a condescending manner to others, yet when you do it it's perfectly justified.

That's hypocracy; by any definition.

How do you know that the other people here aren't enjoying themselves with these debates? What business is it of yours what threads are started or how people choose to interact, you are not a mod. You seem to think that just because you don't like something, or because someone disagrees with you they should be silenced.

Plus the tone of your first post in this thread could very well be considered flame bait as it insults the practically the whole of general. Maybe somone should post it in moderation and find out?

If you don't like it, don't come here, there are other fora.
