War Games...The New Sport?
With violence becoming more and more part of our lives, and the human population skyrocketing...
Is it possible that we may make War an actualy sport... Giving prizes and fortune to the victors...
I would like to hear your comments, ideas, and arguments about this...
Will it be open to anyone or do you have to join a nation's armed forces?

non-lethal wargames as a real sport would be great. i would actually watch the olympics! :)

Well that depends on you guys...
As for me...I think anyone should be allowed to participate... And Islands that are un-inhabbited would be used as the battlegrounds...so they are away from society...

Unreal Tournament what??
Thats an interesting concept; I'd say it should be legal but ONLY if the people involved volunteer for it. It work some what like the gladiator fights in rome: once you're in, the only way out is successive victory and popular demand.
No one wants a Battle Royal scenario (See insane Japanese school kids with weapons)
Yeah I agree with you there...lol...
But I heavily doubt we would force school children to kill each other...
Probrably just people who just didn't give a dam anymore or convicts and other things such as that...

I would say non leathal becuase i would want to particapate then and if was leathal it would be to controversial. it would be deemed as imoral and wrong etc. thus not recieved well.
However that same controversy could cause it too be popular...
Though I myself would prefer non-lethal as well...
Society may just take the next big step in Violent sports and make a real Gladiator sport...(Battle Royale 2, Unreal Tournament)
Not only that...think about the sponsorships and the money buisnesses would make off of it...
It would be like a new Violent Revolition...

Man is violent and loves violence.
So lets have violent games but in a safe environment that nobody actually dies. :D
Anybody watched 'Combat Missions' before? The show was aired for one season but then they cancelled the next season because it dramatised and bastardised war heroes which nobody wants to join anymore. If not it was rather good (till the ending, which was so damn lame).
Btw. battle Royale kinda rocked, if it weren't so arty farty at the ending.

The point remains: No one wants to see crazy Japanese kids kill eachother like that ever again.
Well actually..

Looking at your poll, I speak for the paintball community when I say that most paintball players do not see our sport as a violent war game. While scenario games and woods ball can easily be associated with killing and war, most paintball players are not violent people and don't see it that way.
Over the years paintball has made many leaps away from the 'war game' sterotype. Playing on inflatable fields, wearing colored jerseys, shooting colored markers (Never call them guns. Guns kill, markers don't.), and shooting multi colored paint (I don't even think they make red fill paint anymore, except for specially ordered 'team color' paint).
Paintball is a good, peacfull outlet for aggression, and I hope that one day wars around the world are fought with paintballs and not bullets. I think everybody needs to play paintball at least once during their life. Insurance company statistics have proven that paintball is safer than bowling! More people are injured while fishing than playing paintball! (And NO, moron kids who shoot eachother in their backyards without masks do NOT represent the sport in any way.)

This poll makes no sense to me. I've been playing wargames since early puberty. We either played with plastic or metal figures or cardboard pieces moved around a map. I don't see why we should treat prisoners to a game that people like myself have spent thousands to persue. Perhaps if we forced prisoners to paint our military miniatures as part of their 'rehabilitation' I could see it. Otherwise, screw them leave the playing to honest citizens.
Sorry I guess I generalized the Paintball thing...i meant to use it as a "non-lethal" means of an example...
Armed forces around the world now use something called "Simunitions" which are basically wax bullets... It's basically the same concept of paintball except these things hurt like hell when you get hit by them...
What I mean by "Lethal" War Games is that the teams who participate will use real weapons and fight each other in competition over an island located far from society. Broadcasts will be made of the status of the "game".
"Non-Lethal" would be essentially the same except the use of "Simunitions" would be enforced instead of actualy live weaponry.
Competitors who participate in these "games" would be screened first... And there would be restrictions...like age for example so we won't get a "Battle Royale" thing where teenages get involved....
Plus we would have different events in the "sport"...
Capture The Flag
Death Match
Team Deathmatch
and other such events...
If it got big enough the "sport" could evolve into having Tanks, ships and planes...
Mabye even go into different types of era's....like medieval or Revolutionary War...

Paintball is still awesome though. The adrenaline rush of bullets flying around and the screams of pain as the bullet hits your friend in the ass.

They're not called bullets.
