The Human Flag

"Humanity could hold the universe in it's palm, if only we could learn to unclench our fists."

Throughout the years we have seperated ourselves through nation, religion, race, politics and so on...

But the Age Of Seperation will not end unless we as the Human Race end it ourselves...

I truly believe that mabye not in my lifetime... But someday the Human Race will unite under one banner and finally enter a Golden Age...

But here and now we will affect on how soon that day will come...

I would like to hear your theories and arguments about how this could be approached... I only ask that everyone be respectful to one others opinion as this is a serious discussion...

I eagerly await to see everyones ideas... :)

We will only unite if we can find a common enemy. We will only stay united as long as that enemy exists. I can't wait till we meet up with some space aliens.

I cannot see it happening unless they are given a reason to band together.

As I see it, the more quicker we use the available space and resources and come closer together, the more the differences will stand out and cause clashes.

Depressing outlook, but I think it is true. :(

I agree with your statement...
That would be one of the greatest possibilities...

It could be argued that the division has been the main factor in our technology advances. Opposing tribes and nations have always sought better ways to outfight, outrace or outproduce their rivals. Uniting under a single banner could lead to a very slow-advancing state of affairs. I don't agree with that sentiment, but I think it's true.

When it finally sinks in that the universe is a dangerous place for small, weak mammals like us, and that we desperately need each other if we are to continue as a viable species.

When people finally let go of the myths and legends of history and realize that we are all brothers and sisters of the same mother.

When we finally learn that belief is a very personal thing and that trying to "convert" others to our own beliefs not only demeans their beliefs but subjects our own beliefs to unbearable scrutiny.

When we wake up to the fact that material possessions really don't satisfy and that the only thing with long-lasting effect is what we do for each other.

When we accept that we are inseperable from the rest of the universe and particularly all that lives. When we finally accept the responsibility incumbent on us to protect and nurture ALL living things as the only known sentient, self-aware creatures.

I agree with everything said in general. One day in like a few hundred years form now we'll go all star trek and there will be no war, poverty, famine..so come on with the replicators!

Education must be improved first. This is paramount to preventing religous basesd wars as well as ending racism of any kind. Next with our very educated race (and after LED debt is cancelled) We can work on improving the peoples of the LED's in education, health, business etc while simultaneously establishing new ways to circumvent wide spread famine by crop devastation etc. And building a global defense force just in case we meet any nasty aliens along the way.

Or just find a nasty alien to do your bidding and make him/her/it use its 'magic powers' to make love and peace reign.....white powder may be used.

You do realise 'independance day' was a movie and not an instructional video in homeland security?

When people finally let go of the myths and legends of history and realize that we are all brothers and sisters of the same mother. Wow, I agree

When we finally learn that belief is a very personal thing and that trying to "convert" others to our own beliefs not only demeans their beliefs but subjects our own beliefs to unbearable scrutiny. Triple agree! When we use the formalities that we personally use to live our own lives and use them to label others into that formality we fail each other(politics is cause, our hell today that will only worsen is the effect).

When we wake up to the fact that material possessions really don't satisfy and that the only thing with long-lasting effect is what we do for each other. Holy shmoley, someone I agree with beyond our limiting label of 100% being whole.

When we accept that we are inseperable from the rest of the universe and particularly all that lives. When we finally accept the responsibility incumbent on us to protect and nurture ALL living things as the only known sentient, self-aware creatures. Amen(truth) bro.

It isn't about everyone believing we are all the same - we are not. It is about recognizing and accepting that we are different.

I admit I haven't seen much Babylon 5, but weren't the humans still at war with each other at some point?

Interesting point. Some say that the technological strength of 19th century Europe was at least stimulated by it's internal division and competition. (compare Europe with 19th century China, an internally united and stable empire which advanced very slowly technologically. Only when England started the opium wars they found out they where not invincable after all).

How about this statement: "The United Nations is our best hope of reaching a peacefull and united world".

Yeah, but we did get together long enough to fight a war against an alien race. Then we started fighting each other again when the war was settled.
It was realistic that way.

LOL. Okay, we all exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen and are bipedal, warm blooded omnivores, so in that sense, you are correct.
