I knew my thread sounded too much like those die a virgin threads, but oh well...
What do you think would happen to the world if Sony merged with Microsoft? The End of free enterprise? the beginning of megapriced PC's that cripple the economy?
discuss.

Megapriced PC's? Only for morons. You buy parts online, not from retail stores. You do not buy pre-assembled ones either. Now, if you have no idea how to build a PC, find someone who does and have them help you. And I do not know when I last paid for Windows... Oh wait, I never have! :-P

The common man still buys PC's. So do businesses.
Now what do you think'd happen to them?

They would come to people like me... Capitalism! They would go where it is the cheapest, which would be in individuals like myself and my friends.

Nothing. They would still be buying shit software, but the hardware wouldn't be made by Microsonyft anyway.

I would learn the ways of the hill people, and live a life of glee far away from here. And when Microsonysoft came looking for us, we would take up the tools that we have built our villages with as arms and fight nobly to the death.

Another option is Linux. It is open source, so all they need to do is buy or get ahold of one copy and they can use it as many times as they want. Linux is popping up more and more in businesses because it is so much cheaper to use compared to Microsoft Windows. And, it is not that much different! Linux has taken steps towards being a personal operating system that I would not believe! It is very simple to install (I know a fair amount about computers, but not the most. It was very easy for me to install. Not as easy as WinXP, but still easy.)

You'd need a .net passport to watch TV, but it wouldn't cause significant harm to the economy. Also, instead of just doing one game system, they'd make Xbox 2 and PS3 compatible with each other. Then, they'd leak a rumor that the two systems could be combined to create the xPOS32 to get people with one system to buy the other. It would turn out to be true, but there would only be a few games that of take advantage of the increased capabilities and none would be very good. Eventually the merger would be clearly seen as a colossal mistake much like AOL/TimeWarner, and they'd get out of console buisness altogether. Nintendo would continue on, facing more and more competition from cell phone makers.

Mandrake 10.0 is easier than XP to install and it recognizes more hardware. Moreover, you can run windows software with WINE and it's smooth with the latest version.
Those who are still paying for XP have been mislead by some misleading commercials.

I have XP, but I sure as hell did not pay for it.
I have not used any of the really new ones, so I do not really know. I just hope there is more support from games soon, then I can switch!

Some don't document it though. For instance, I'm playing warcraft 3 in openGL mode, with the command "war3.exe -opengl", this option is not documented.
Some games are still directX only though, but they are usually crappy games. Well I don't have an instance of a good game which is directX only in mind.

I do not have enough Linux-only geek friends to know stuff like this. Well, I know a couple, but they are not gamers.
But I do not believe WCIII is a good example. Blizzard does a good job on support, I mean their products run on Macs! Now if it played CS smoothly, then that might be something to look into. And HL2? w00t!

All I know is that if Sony and Microsoft merged it would be due to Bill Gates (the current grand poobah of the Illuminati and the Free Masons who is just waiting to be instilled as God Emperor of everything - should have mentioned this on the conspiracy thread) buying Sony. But he'd keep the cheap overseas labor force and the original parent company would become commonly refered to as miclosoft and the O/S would be called Windows XPree. It would still crash/blue screen at the worst times possible, however, and would remain vulnerable to ever more silly named hack-attacks.

CS has a native support for linux I think (although I'm not sure).
HL2 is using openGL.
Both should work flawlessly with WINE.
Here is the application database of wine :

There you can see how to run your favorites applications on linux.

I believe CS has native support for servers, but not to play as a client.

Would never happen, asside from no competition agency would allow it there is no reason for them to merge. Nothing would be gained from such a merger.

They would have to decide whether to still market X-Box or Playstation/PS2.
