Myers-Briggs

Teply

I am wondering what the general psychology of the NS and forum users is because I think that many of you all are of a rather self-selected group. The 16 possible Myers-Briggs personalities will not fit in a poll (sorry), but a table showing the percent population distribution of the personalities can be found here http://209.15.29.56/myersbriggs/personhome.htm. I think the results might be significantly different for NS and forum users.

Start any responses to this thread with your 4-letter code or a comment that you don't believe in Jungian ideas in the first place. If you do not know what any of this is, then I would suggest taking both of the tests here: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp and http://similarminds.com/p-myers_briggs_jung.html. You can find several other tests if your results are not very consistent. Remember that no personality is "better" than another.

Naw, I don't blame you. You had to read between the lines. I am partially pointing out that people usually only respond to posts that empassion them at all. When you see opinions in the posts, you are missing the opinions of several Average Joes who couldn't care less.

Chalk up yet another INTP...

Gee, for comprising 1% of the population, there sure seems to be a strong preference around here for us...

My guess (and I assume this is one of, if not the point of this topic), is that not only does this sort of game (NationStates) strongly draw our type, but also that this sort of test of self-discovery draws us... Moreso than most... And on top of that, conversing on an internet forum in general is favorable to us...

So basically, the community around here is more likely to be comprised of this type, or very similar, and this is even further distilled down by finding out which of us is eager to enter this discussion...

Well, that's my half-arsed interpretation of the results thus far...

I scored an INTP, and some famous INTPs are:
Socrates
Rene Descartes
Blaise Pascal
Sir Isaac Newton
Albert Einstein

Cool. They're most of my favourite famous ppl, whom I look up to.

Games NTs seem to especially enjoy include Risk, Bridge, Stratego, Chess, Go, and word games of all sorts.
Very true. I love Scrabble and usually attempt the Times Cryptic Crossword every day.

INTPs tend not to be writers or to go into sales work. They are, however, often excellent teachers, particularly for advanced students
Guess what? I'm a teacher! And much prefer working with top students, as I have little patience for teaching things I view as so bloody obvious they don't need explaining.

INTPs take their mating relationships seriously and usually are faithful and devoted
Umm...usually. Yes. Usually. moving on:

Therefore, INTPs are often misunderstood, seen as difficult to get to know, and seldom perceived at their true level of competency.
Definitely true, in my case. I'm invariably viewed as not too bright because of my size and general social reticience. Most of the time I'm not talking to them because I'm thinking about 1/2 a dozen other things. Plus I find it hard to engage in social chit-chat. "Hey, did you see the sports game last night? Didn't the team that won do so much better than the other one? Wasn't one(or more) very efficient and talented, and didn't one (or more) do badly" etc etc. <Yawn>

Authority derived from office, position, or wide acceptance does not impress INTPs
That's true. When I was very young, I was at my mother's school and totally embarassed her. I walked in first ahead of her principal and when he jokingly said:"You should let me in first. Didn't your mother tell you to respect your elders and betters?" I replied:"Why should I respect you just because you're older than me?". Luckily I was young enough for him not to take it seriously. But Mum was horrified.
I still think that way. Better, definitely. Older - why? Cause you've spent more time on this Earth and done less than me? That deserves my respect?

Precise about their descriptions, INTPs will often correct others (or be sorely tempted to) if the shade of meaning is a bit off.
Yep, if anyone's ever followed some of my posts, you'll be able to attest to my pedantic leanings. I don't mean it as an insult btw. It just bugs the hell out of me when someone gets a quote/statistic wrong. I appreciate being corrected.

i find it very disconcerting that a short series of true/false questions, many of which i was ambivalent about could nail my personality down so accurately

iNTj -- the matermind rational

Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind's well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined. In their drive for efficient action, Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy.

thats me alright.

Texan Hotrodders
23-11-2004, 18:01
The similarminds test scored me as an ISTJ.

The reason I disrust this test is that it says my ideal self is an extrovert, which is simply not the case. I would like to be balanced between the two, not lean towards one, but I currently lean towards introversion.

The humanmetrics test scored me as an INTJ.

You are:
slightly expressed introvert

slightly expressed intuitive personality

moderately expressed thinking personality

slightly expressed judging personality

Much closer.

I liked some of the commentary sites that were provided as well, though they weren't always completely accurate when it came to certain aspects of my personality. The Keirsey site pegged me as less compassionate then I am, and the typelogic site said:

This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship).

I often have little patience with useless social rituals, but generally understand them quite well. (Which is probably why I have little patience with them lol) And I rather enjoy small talk and flirtation, dammit. Though I suspect that has to do with my cultural roots rather than an inherent temperament.

the way it was explained to me when i took an honest to god meyers-briggs assessment at work (not a quickie online inventory) is that the introversion/extroversion is more about where you get your motivation or your 'source of energy'.

You don't have to believe in the test, and the result should never be used in a discriminatory way.

Some studies have suggested that Myers-Briggs results are phenotypes. Either you are, for example, an extravert (dominant gene) or an introvert (recessive). This may, however, be much more complex, for each of these traits may be controlled by multiple alleles. The extent to which someone is an extravert is like the extent to which their skin produces melanin.

All testmakers have biases. I provided links to two different tests including one with an "ideal" versus "real" result for better perspective.

I collected all of the responses given in this thread. Every time someone said that one code described his or her personality, I counted that as one vote. It did not matter whether it was "real," "ideal," previous data, or some other eccentricity. Each was one vote. Pardon me if I miscounted. Rounding caused the sum of one percentage set not to add to 100. Also, keep in mind that this data is gender-neutral.
