Should we amend the constitiution to allow immigrants like Arnold S. to run for president?

If you vote yes, what stipulations, if any, should be imposed (minimum residency, test, etc)?

Keep in mind this is how Demolition Man started.

Do you really want to vote for a future where the only eatery in town is Taco Bell, where sex consists of pills and a pair of helmets, where commercial jingles are the only "music" on the air, where swearing is fined... and where toilet paper has been replaced with seashells?

I'm pretty sure Arnold said he didn't want to be the president anyway.

Sure change it, but for god sakes don't do it for Arnold, that guys just a brick with legs. His shallow voters just voted for a celebrity cause there to stupid to learn about actual politics.

I kinda fail to see how amending the Constitution, which is based in reality, has anything to do with a fictious (yet entertaining, nonetheless) movie.

How rude. I'm not shallow...How many Californians do you even know?

There should be a minimum residency that is quite long, and you must have been a citizen for all of that time. No dual citizenships allowed. No knighthoods, lordships, etc. in other countries. Previous experience in government is expected. =)

Maybe that's why they DID vote for him - because he knows nothing about politics. Some people just get tired of career politicians and all their BS once in a while, which I completely agree with. I think that Politics (i.e. run for office all your life) should NEVER be a valid career option, because frankly put, most of the people we have in office are absolute idiots, and they're only voted in because they're better than the other idiot who wanted the job.

We don't need to ammend the Constitution to elect Arnold president. We can just ignore it like we always do.

It seems strange that someone born in America, but raised their entire adult life in China can run for president, but someone born in Europe, and raised their entire adult life in America cannot.

But doing it for Arnold makes it look silly.

In any case, it will never happen. Democrats aren't eager to see Arnie run, and Republicans for the most part would oppose this on principle.

What he says doesn't matter. He's a politician.

Um, thats a just crap. If you want a person in office who looks out for themselves, or one demographic, sure this is fine. Just cause America's politicians suck doesn't justify the "Average Joe" president. A president should be learned and intelligent, not just knowing how to whinge. Arnold whinges and does nothing/

There is a reason that our Founding Fathers said that only natural born citizens could become President. Do you think they really wanted to allow a foreigner the opportunity to rule their then-newly won country? No. Jefferson would be turning in his grave if we tried amend the Constitution in that way. You think they would have liked seeing an Englishman or Frenchman running for the Presidency??

I do like Arnold, but there are reasons that our Founding Fathers set the Constitution up the way they did. To change it would go back on everything they stood and fought for.

No, don't change it. It's fine as is where it concerns the presidency.

Why on earth do you support Arnies "punch line and sound bite" campaign? The only person he benefits are comedians. I don't think anyone wants to go to America these days, especially not for politics. It would be to much of a mess to clean up, and unlike Iraq, you can't legally just go around killing everyone.

I might have considered it for somebody like Kissenger, but I cringe at the thought of doing it for somebody like Ah-nuld.

*sigh* Such is the shape of American politics today. A face, an action hero with no substance runs for office on a platform of fiscal irresponsibility and wins in a landslide. And now the GOP is wet in the panties with the thought they could do the same with him for the presidency. If it wasn't for that pesky constitution.....

I'e said it before, if we wouldn't do it for the greatest diplomat of all time, there's no reason to do for Arnie. While the rule may disqualify a certain number of highly qualified people from being president, surely out of a nation with over 150Million native born citizens old enough we can come up with plenty of excellent people to run for president. Given the last several slates put up, I believe not much effort is going into finding well qualified canidates for the presidency, but amending to constitution as a labor saving measure seems kinda silly to me.

No way, not Arnold. He's a great comedic action hero but come on. As a politician no way. What's funny to me is that he's Republican and campaigned for Bush, but his policies are totally democrat. Especially the "moral issues".
And Kissinger? Are you insane? He's wanted for war crimes by four nations and has to consult a team of lawyers everytime he wants to leave the country.

Sorry for not making myself more clear. I don't agree with Arnold becoming president for the reasons I've stated (I don't agree with him becoming president at all), and I completely agree with you about the learned and intelligent part.
