Most Annoying Schoolwork

I'm guessing that most of us are or have been in some sort of formal educational setting. So what was the most annoying or ridiculous or difficult assignment you were given, and why did it suck so much?

For me, it was an entirely useless paper I had to do for an Educational Psychology class in which I was supposed to regurgitate the material I had already been lectured on in reseach paper format. Basically, I had to do a paper over what I had already learned and been thoroughly tested over, and I was supposed to do it in 10 pages.

The most annoying piece of schoolwork came from my high school years for some class I cannot remeber, the assignment to regurgitate some piece of international news from a newspaper article (from one of three papers) once a week. The catch was, we were not allowed to use the same article as anyone else, so the actual result was that on the morning of the assignment being due, a few newspapers would be passed arround with people cutting out random articles for the class. Completely meaningless when you get down to it, none of us bothered to read anything but the one article we managed to cut out, and we only gave it quick skim on the way to class in order to be able to summarize it.

Well, except for that one kid who refused to cooperate, he picked his own story and wouldn't tell us which one he picked, so we risked getting the same story as him, which happened to someone about every other week. Luckily for me he tended to go for the big name stories, while I tended to show up late and get stuck with the stories about Mongolian weasel crisises.

we talking about the '97 or '02 crisis here? because the '02 one was not just a minor story out of mongolia, but of massive regional imprtance as far away as kazakhstan.

most of the assignments i felt to be annoying or ridiculous didn't get done - who needs annoying busy work when my test scores and well written actual papers kept my grades up high enough? oddly enough, despite years of people saying it, it never did come back to haunt me.

Unfortunetely in High school I didn't really have much of an option to drop 10% or more of my grade by failing to dostupid assignements. I actually failed algebra (had to repeat it as a freshman because my precious couse wasn't recognized) with a 97% test average because I refused to do busy work.

The suckiest assignment?

There are too many to list!

so, let's just mention a few of the worst ones.

OAC English (grade 13 English)
--> my teacher gave us an outline that required us to read and compare two novels that he selected from a list of ten books that we each submitted to him (basically we were assigned two random books from our list). Now, this was no ordinary comparison, we had to compare and contrast the content and nature of the literary material on the merits it served as an academic piece and why we picked one over the other citing secondary sources as well as primary....

APC100 (Communications class, college)
--> we had to present a chapter from our crap-ass text book and the professor assigned my group to cover non-verbal communication. Now, this class is boring to begin with and the subject material we had to cover was very limited... So, it was IMPOSSIBLE to care about such shit... I mean I'm good at pretending I give a damn, but it was too much.

OAC World Issues (grade 13)
--> we were told to pick groups for our debate on China's one child policy and we were to pick sides and debate as if you belonged to that side. My group picked the rights of women. Now, my group was composed of three guys and me (basically, all but one of the guys were on my group - the last one was the mediator for the class). So, i got stuck doing 85% of the fucking group work...

SOC204 ("Creative" Thinking, college)
--> there was nothing creative about this class! It was go in, listen to the professor talk and then regurgitate the fucking material... That whole class was a whole crap load of annoying schoolwork.

4A English (grade 12 English)
--> Margret Laurence's The Stone Angel... if there was ever the most annoying this to study in English class, it was this piece of crap material! So dry, boring and there is absolutely nothing appealring about reading over 400 pages of some creepy old hag whining about what a waste her life was pnly to end the stupid story by dying.

Unlike the rest of you, I find papers and the like to be okay... My worst assignment came from math... Every single night we had to do like a hundred problems for Algebra. I always knew what I was doing so I never accomplish the homework... I am just glad I passed.

Heh, same.

My most irritating report? Back in high school, one of my classes was filled with dumbass, and they pissed off the teacher with their dumbassery. So, he gave us a nice long four page paper to do. Everyone who had pissed him off the day before, he just ripped up their paper and told them "this paper was worth 2 points if you did it. 10 points extra credit if you weren't being an asshole yesterday. Minus 20 points from your total grade if you didn't do it. Enjoy."

Algebra II was the worst class for me, because I doubled up on math that year and took geometry as well (which isn't NEAR as hard for me). Our teacher would always give us the even problems because he knew the odds were in the back of the book too......

Well, I just ignored the non-assessed pieces, so I avoided most of the sucky ones.

Hmm, I didn't even read the texts for my classes this year, so I can't complain about them...

I know --- Breaker Morant! HATE! We had to watch the movie on a tiny tv, with the light from outside glaring on the screen, and I couldn't tell the difference between any of the characters.

I spent two sessions being freaked out thinking I had to write on Morant, before someone told me I could write on another text. So I got to write the whole essay, which was meant to take three sessions, in one. How *fun*.

I got to write on Oedipus Rex, though, which was great, because I'd just finished doing that text in another class.

I hate General Education classes that won't do a damn for me in the long run, personally, and so, all work from those classes are annoying for me.
