The Liberal Mantra

TO ALL MY LIBERAL BRETHREN: Stop apologizing for being a liberal. I am one, and am proud of it. From this moment forward, simply say:

1. I am for gun control. It just makes sense.

2. I don't want you in my bedroom. I will stay out of yours.

3. Discrimination is a fact. End it and stop making excuses for it.

4. Men can't have babies, so we won't tell women how to do it or not to do it.

5. If poor people can't have government help, neither can large corporations.

6. Feed and clothe Americans first, then the rest of the world.

7. If you want lower taxes, close the schools and drive on dirt roads.

8. Rich people want to stay rich. Poor people don't. Think about it.

9. You can tell me what Jesus would do after school and after court.

10. Practice what you preach. Rules and morals don't apply to one side.

11. Anne Coulter and Satan will never be in the same room at the same time. On second thought, yes he is.

12. Michael Moore may be fat and obnoxious, but he's right.

13. Rush Limbaugh may be fat and obnoxious, but it just makes him fat and obnoxious.

14. "Values" come from conduct, not conversation.

and finally,

15. I am a Liberal. I can speak and think at the same time.

Hehe, I agree with most of those.

:)

I think we need to be helping more than just ourselves...
(The "Feed and Clothe Americans first, then the rest of the world." one.)
We're affecting their planet, too. We should be compensating at least a little.

(/cough... SUVs shouldn't be for soccer moms... /cough. If the only reason you drive one is that you feel safer in an SUV than in a car and if you don't have to drive an airplane full of kids everywhere, get a car, or better yet, a hybrid, and get over yourself.)

:)

Centrist Democrats.

In any case, I disagree with the starter of this thread on gun control.

I agree with Chodolo.

The use of "liberal" in today's political climate as a bad word is rediculous, and is at the same time quite illuminating on a couple of points. First, it points to the effectiveness of conservative groups at semantics and issue framing; making thier opponentry afraid to speak it's own name is quite the tactic. Secondly, it points to the myth of the "liberal media." The word "liberal" is treated as a political swear word throughout the mass media, particularly in broadcast mediums; the adoption of this particular meme would not really be possible if the media were slanted to the left overall. Do not misconstrue; I do not mean that the media is overall slanted to the right. It is my opinion that an overarching, total slant in the American mass media does not exist.

The destruction of this meme and the re-taking of the word "liberal" will be a thing to be celebrated, but cannot happen until liberals figure out how to gain the same proficiency with and concern for semantics and issue framing as is currently displayed by conservatives.
