Who are your favorites?
Listen to Hawk's HR calls as Jose Valentin hits his 3rd HR in 1 game. (https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/bschalle/www/jose3.wav)
Mine are White Sox announcers Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Darren Jackson (DJ).

Hawk is known for phrases known to Sox fans as "Hawkisms." his Home run call is one of the most imitated around. It is to the point that every announcer tries to mimick it during the HR derby.

They are very emothionally involved in the game and make a close game very fun as they get energized. This leads to amazing calls.

Some of my favorites of this year were these.
During the July 24, 2004 come from behind 9th inning victory, this was the call for the walkup HR by Joe Crede off Tigers closer Ugeth Urbina.

DJ: GAME!!!! (he knew it was gone from the moment it was hit)
Hawk: Way back! Get back there Stretch! He looks up! YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YYYESSSSSS!!!!!!

Against the damn Toons in mid-August. tied 2-2 bottom of the 9th. Timo Perez on 1st, Ben Davis batting
Hawk: "Big Ben hits it to right. Timo's comin' around! COME ON TIMO! COME ON TIMO! COME ON TIMO!!! The throw's late YES!!!!

And the play for the highpoint of the season, a sweep of the Twinkies at the Humptey Dumpty Dome. Also a 5 game win streak, the 1st 2 wins were against the Flubs. The HR that put the Sox ahead in 1st. Batting: Carlos Lee
Pitching: Johan Santana (yeah, that's right the Cy Young winner)

HAWK: Caballo hits it deep to Left. Come on! Get up Stretch! It will, Lew Ford looks up! YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YYYESSS!!!!

Hawkisms
"YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD YYYES!!!!!" is his HR call
"He GAWN!" for K's
"Ducks on the Pond" runners on 2nd and 3rd
"Duck Snort" his term for a looper
"Chopper 2 hopper" phrase for a chopper that hops twice
"Set 'em down and rack em up" for a double play

I love those two. I liked Steve Stone, but the Cubs gave me one more reason to not like them.

I miss Bob Murphy.......

But, I like the FOX team of McCarver and Buck. Not because I think they are all that good (Buck is good but McCarver is losing it) but because it is so obvious they don't like each other. The way they snipe each other and give backhanded compliments during telecasts. they are gonna brawl someday.

Kenny Mayne has the glory of making the best home run call in history.

Listen to it here. (http://www.sportscenteraltar.com/multimedia/chicken.wav)

I do miss Tom "Wimpy" Pacioric. He was there before DJ. DJ is OK, but he isn't Wimpy. DJ says the dumbest stuff sometimes.

Against the Royals when the Sox were winning like 7-1 Willie Harris was on 3rd with 1 out and DJ said "If Aaron doesn't get this easy RBI I'll eat this paper."

"That is a gum wrapper," Hawk replied. DJ ended up eating it on air. OMG it was funny.

More Hawkisms
Grab Some Bench (old SO call)
And a crooked number will go on the board (for an inning where 2 or more runs are scored)
It is 2-1 Bad guys (when the other team is leading)
It's SHINGO TIME! (When closer Shingo Takatsu comes in)
MERCY! (what he yells when something really bad happens)
That's trouble! (see previous one.)
And you can put that one on the board (when the other team hits an HR)
el Caballo (Carlos Lee)
The Big Hurt (Frank Thomas)
AND THE SOX HAVE WON THE PENNANT (I wish)

Hawk's call as the Sox clinch in 1993 (https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/bschalle/www/chi%20-%201993%20AL%20West%20Champion%20White%20Sox.mp3)
