;) In case the title has you worried, no, I am not spamming the boards to advertise some new escort service... ;)
Free society; most of us have heard of it, and so far as I can ascertain few of us would state outright that we disagree with it, yet there appears to be a continual implied denial that free society is desirable both on these boards and in RL. Dont like someone else's marraige choice because of your personal beliefs, ban them from getting married, dont like the news, suggest the reporter is a traitor for passing the video tape onto their parent news organisation, dont think that is an appropriate service for someone to offer for money, make it illegal, dont like people's moral attitudes, remove their basic rights of self-determination. Then go into a rant about how you expect to have this right and that right and to make this choice and that choice for yourself because you live in a free society whilst not even batting an eyelid at the freedoms you expect others to be denied.
It's called a 'free society', not a 'free if you agree with me society'. I'm wondering do people these days just not understand the division between personal morality and public standards? More to the point do people really not understand that more choices you make for someone, the less practised that someone is at making good choices for themselves?
