Jailed Abu Ghraib guard now abusing self
U.S. Staff Sergeant Ivan Frederick, jailed over the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, has found a new target for his sadistic ways – himself. Authorities at Fort Bragg Military Prison, where Fredericks is serving his eight-year sentence, say that he has subjected himself to a systemic campaign of self-abuse since entering the institution.
Frederick has denied being “a bad person”, saying that he was influenced by the prison culture in which he found himself. “I knew it was wrong, but everybody seemed to be involved in it. I lost my moral compass.”
The 24 year-old reservist has admitted to forcing himself to masturbate, sometimes at gunpoint, a practice he claims began as a form of interrogation. “I was pretty sure I was holding back important information about my case. But no matter how many times I ritually humiliated myself, I wouldn’t crack.”
Critics charge that Frederick’s self-interrogations were ineffective, yielding only low-quality intelligence about Tyra Bank and Frederick’s high school geography teacher.
The New Yorker published the stunning revelations this week, alleging the self-abuse could lead all the way to the Pentagon. "We've uncovered some very disturbing memos in which White House legal counsel have dramatically revised the definition of unacceptable self-gratification," said investigative reporter Seymour Hersch. "Strangely however, the revisions seemed to have taken place during the Clinton Administration."
The man who Frederick to justice, Major Michael Holley, denies the Pentagon is to blame. “How much training do you need to know that forcing a man to masturbate is wrong, even if it is for the good of the country?”
