Computers with semantical thought? I don't think so. We may very well have computers we can converse with, but I do not believe computers will ever think like us - no matter the technological advancement.

We humans think semantically - with concepts. Computers think with syntax. They do not understand the data being processed. They only process it.

To paraphrase John Searle, imagine a programmer writes a computer program that simulates a Chinese speaker. If asked a question in Chinese the computer will match the question against it's data base and produce appropiate answers in Chinese. Does the computer understand Chinese? No.

Understanding a language, or any other mental activity we posses, relies on more than having symbols in our minds. It relies on having a meaning attached to these symbols. A computer simply processes these symbols, and does not attach meaning to them.

About 5% of the world will be inhabitable as the rest will have been rendered uninhabitable due to relentless nuclear/biological/chemical warfare.

Ill think well find the emergance of the E.U as a nation near the end of this centuray no doubt, China will allmost certianly become some sort of democracy in the near future due to the vast dissolution of many of my western educated chinese friends it appears that much of my gereration in china is wanting democracy. Well probally see a few more super powers emerge in the far east tiger economys.

As for space i seroisuly doubt well have anything better than fusion engines by then which arnt great but better than nothing, which means there will probally be several permanent mining colonies on mars.

Cancer and many genetic disisease should be near eradicated with the edvancement of gene and nano technology, that is if the religious right dosent conquer the entire world.

There is defienty one more world war coming if not for our generation then the next. Religion has had its midlife crisis in the enlightinment and its degining to start its death throws with all this return to ultra fanatisim with both Islam and Christianity. These two camps are either gonna wipe eacth other out, but i think well will certainly see the large scale action of Socalists liberals and other athesist, as we can begin to see areas of the world form into cohesive base camps for this, e.g northern italy, the catalan, castile region, northern germany southern england north west and east american. These are just the places i know people from and have been to in which conservative religion has lost all assocation with my student generation.

Any who, i really think theres gonna be one final stand off between The Chritian Right and the Islamic Right, with Left leaning Europe and american in the middle in the next 50 years. Hopefully in enough time for my to participate

You also just described how human memory works on a basic level. All the human mind does is take it up a few levels. All language amounts to is how a person was taught to conceptualize the information, and even that really isn't that advanced of a thing.

Oil is obsolete. The middle east, except for Israel is in dire poverty. Europe is militarized and jockeying for world domination against China and a nearly bankrupt but still militarily strong USA. An act of nuclear terrorism will have taken place, and resulted in a war in which the USA will have spent the most money and manpower. The Islamic world is in disarray and dealing with the aftermath of this punitive war.

The U.S. will still be fighting insurgents in Fallujah. The death toll will be 237,486 and the Republicans will continue to insist that the war is going well. The Democrats will just complain about the war and not come up with a half-decent counterplan.

The PlayStation 30 will have virtual reality capabilities. People will play video games in 12' x 12' rooms designed specifically for them. Sports games will have franchise modes that will enable you to actually chew out your head coaches.

People will own flying cars. However, they will be a lot like RVs or boats today, in that people with money who really want them own them.

The NHL will still be locked out. Most of its players will have long since started playing in other leagues but will still be fighting with ownership over a salary cap. Meanwhile, they will play in other leagues for far less than what they made in the NHL and will deal with the same salary caps and free agency restrictions they fought against, but they will be even worse.

Europe will be the world's premier superpower, and yet Britain will still refuse to use the euro, since they say the pound is worth more. However, currency trade will be done in euros, not pounds, and the British will be largely left out in the cold. But at least they will be doing better than the Americans, whose dollar will be weaker than the Canadian dollar starting in 2051.

Several European nations will elect ethnic minorities, women, and religious minorities to their nations' highest offices. Canada will do the same. The U.S. will not, saying minorities and women are "too hard to elect." Barack Obama will appear on a Democratic ticket as VP but will lose in a landslide.

A computer will pass the Turing test. Artificial intelligence will become more common. Also, there will be some device that tries to interpret animal signals, but it's largely unreliable.
