John Hostettler, Congressman representing the 8th district of Indiana, has been convinced by local religious groups to introduce legislation in the House that would change the name of an Interstate 69 extension to a more moral sounding number.

Religious conservatives believe “I-69” sounds too risqué and want to change the interstate’s number.

Seems to me that you have stereotyped people with moral values as sexually ignorant. I ask you, how can you have morals if you are ignorant as to what you're being against? You can't. Also, the people with those morals more than likely didn't have those morals in the past, but had cleaned up their lives. They way they had lived before is how they know.

Call me stupid, but I can't remember who directed the film Dogma.

Anyway, lots of people were protesting against this film on moral grounds, and even picketed the film studios. The director decided to join them and pretend to be one of them. He asked them each if they'd seen the film. Not one of them had.

I thank you.

Well, you can. Maybe you shouldn't but you can. Or do you expect me to think that every mature person that considers themselves very moral was very amoral at one point?

So, social conditioning is a very minor factor?

They should ignore them, and rename it I-666 out of spite.

It is odd how "moral" also seems to equate to "sexually unadventurous"....

I mean, I've looked - but I've never noted in the Bible where it says that couples may not engage in various positions for mutual gratification.

But - to keep everybody happy.... perhaps they should just change it to: "I-69 but only after wedlock".

I wonder...do they also want to skip that number for every street numbering system?

You'd think with all of the REAL issues that people face these days that worrying about a highway numbering system would be right off the bottom of the charts.

There's a Kevin Smith Q&A DVD out. quite funny, but I don't think it is worth buying. I borrowed it off a friend, that where I heard the Dogma story from.

Actually, there was a road 666 somewhere...I think in New Mexico or Arizona, but it has been put out of usage. I can't quite remember the details, it's been a while since I read the article.
