If you have friends and a social life : Halo 1&2 for drunk co-op gaming.
If you own spock ears and a healthy virginity : Half-game and its sequel.

Very funny...well, it would be to a Halo fan, anyway. HL is, and always will be, better. And if you want drunk co-op games, play TimeSplitters 2...fecking hilarious, especially if you play as that goddamn monkey!

I cast my lot with the Half-Life (2) crowd. Why? Sheer honesty. A quality game designed for PCs and the people with the intellect to handle them. Well, in theory, anyhow.

Halo, while pretty, is just that - pretty. It was designed, oddly enough, for a PC that pretends to be a console, for people who can't be arsed to own a real PC. Much like the original Halo, where they said there would be "no PC release", I suspect Halo 2 will have one either out, or announced, within six months, because the changes necessary are pretty minimal.

Then we can see just how pretty it gets on the latest bleeding-edge hardware.

Now, as far as STORY goes - I give the nod to Halo. It's absurd, and they know it, and they enjoy it, whereas the HL side tries to take itself too seriously most of the time. Mechanically, I fall back on HL. Their new phsysics system rocks, too.

The story in Halo 2 was pretty crap I thought but it was really great in Halo 1. Halo was one of the most enjoyable single/multiplayer games I've ever played and still is.

Guys that voted for Half Life - do you not think that Halo is generally more FUN to play than your game? Co-op especially is great as is linking up 4 xboxs and playing with a load of your mates. Dunno about half like 2 though. Sounds great and i cant wait to try it but my PC is useless and it aint on xbox yet... if ever. :(

... So, you're essentially saying that Halo RAWKS? :D

What is cool with halo is the fact that with a drunk buddy, you really play like you're the friggin' MAN! Jumping on an alien islamist bastard's tank, punching the driver's face and dropping a grenade down the hatch is so virile, it makes your hair grow instantly while you play.

I must agree that the xbox has few other games of interest. In fact, Halo 1&2 are the only good games on it. (and Morrowind is meant to be modded on a PC only!)

Right, shoulda qualified my statement- have not checked out Halo 2's storyline, I only have the first (of Halo & HL) them on hand to give thorough examinations.

When it comes to MP action, if you ditch the TKing griefers (you sad pieces of crap know who you are), Halo can be incredibly fun with its standard CTF jazz. When I play various Team vs. Team games (Halo, CS, BF1942, etc), the one thing I always find myself wanting... is the Warthog. If I could take Halo's 'hog into Desert Combat instead of those stupid humvees, I would be in a gaming nirvana.

You do realize that this poll will be beyond innacurate, as many people will vote against Halo or Halo 2 because they hate them. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 won't have as much of a problem, because they are not mascots for their console.

Halo 2, is one of the best FPS I've ever come across. Besides the wonder of XBox Live, the game is done unbelieveably well. The graphics smash any-and-everything I have ever seen to pieces. The story is actually semi-compelling, something I never thought I'd see in a FPS. And besides that, blowing aliens and zombies to hell is fun!

Not to knock the half-life games. They rock as well, but Halo 2 is superior on so many levels.

Halo 2 lacks one critical enemy though, Nazis. To become the ultimate FPS you need Nazis, aliens and zombies, something that hasn't quite been done yet.

But, yeah, It's not an insult to the Half-Life games. To say Halo 2 makes the Half-Life games suck is like saying Time Splitters makes Goldeneye suck. Halo 2 just takes it to another level.

I've played Killzone at my ferinds house for a few hours.
And I must say It's utter BULLSHIT!
Sony Calls it " Halo Killer" Yet the game is utter bullshit. It has some cool fetures, but it's not as FUN to play as HALO.

HALO is just plain fun. Fun to play signle player, because it's just fun. Co-Op is awsome as is multiplayer. Killzone may have more stuff, but it's not fun.
A Game should be fun, HALO is, kill zone isnt.

HALO 2, How can you not love this game? It's just like HALO, an extension of HALO. With the Jack vehical option.
HALO 1 and 2 are just plain FUN!
There are plenty of great games for XBOX.

I do have a PC that can max out most new games. But I perfer my XBOX kuz I can play it on a massive screen and onan coach.

1.) ITS NOT CALLED BLOODY HALO! STOP CALLING IT HALO YOU MORONS!
ITS Halo NOT HALO HALO is HIGH ALTITUDE LOW OPENING, A TYPE OF PARADROP. Halo NOT GODDAMN HALO. When my game starts up, regardless of filenames or convention, the letters HALO appear on screen, all one size, and based on the shape of the letters, presumed to be uppercase. Hence, it is HALO, not H.A.L.O.

I made a generalization, which are prone to not apply equally to everyone. You made a personal attack and an assumption, which is directly offensive and completely inaccurate. I'm quite well informed about the Xbox design and specs. It is inherently inferior to the PC I own. It is a PC-for-dummies approach to videogaming. I'm not saying it doesn't do what it does well, I'm just calling a spade a spade. My 386 could run Pacman like nobody's business.

I can sit back with one big screen on my PC, thanks to the onset of nice wide (large) screen TVs, like that 61" Samsung with DVI input. I don't, but I could.

As far as installing and worrying about specs- I dont have to worry about that at all presently, but I understand your point. The difference is, when a new game comes out that needs X requirements, I may just need an extra stick of ram, or a more up to date videocard. You'll need an entirely new rig. 'You' being Xbox owners, that is.. because YOU have both.

I haven't played either of them yet, but from what I hear I'm going to go with HL2. Halo 2, while fun for multiplayer, got hesitant reviews for its single player campaign. It's confusing all the way through, and the ending makes you cry supposedly. HL2's storyline is supposed to be more complete and intense.

But again, that's all I could come up with for a tie-breaker. They're both 5-star games for good reason.

The single player Halo 2 was alright but i dont think it was anywhere near as good as Halo CE. Halo 2 storyline was confusing and it didn't feel complete. Didnt like much of the new enemies or guns either.

I voted Half Life. I haven't played either of the sequels yet, so couldn't compare them.

In comparing the single player, I felt HL was better then HALO, looking at the time it came out. Both were just as beautiful graphically and audially for their time, and even side by side Half Life tends to give a far greater feeling of suspence and "fight for survival". As soon as the flood were introduced, I must admit to thinking "oh, there's the annoying face jumpers", and for a while felt I was back in half-life, with slightly better graphics, but far less intensity. With the plots, Halo again was wonderful, but the intensity of Half Life helps to give the older game the crown again.

I can't compare multiplayer, because I'm a solo-campaign player myself. However, if we're factoring in HALO's multiplayer element, then I think it's fair to factor in Counterstrike into HL's side.

Overall, Half Life is simply a more solid game. Halo is a VERY good game made to sell, both ideologically and comercially, the X-Box, and it worked, being a beautiful game that's wonderfully fun to play. The older game simply trumps it by keeping the intensity up higher and longer, plus, at least in my experience, delivering a bit more length in gameplay, time wise.

The end levels of HL2 are amazing! The god-like feeling you have as you use your enemies bodies as weapons and steal power to use as energy weapons is just fantastic.

Half Life and/or Half Life 2.

If you want to play Halo BEFORE it was a cheap spin-off, go download Tribes 2 at www.tribes2.com. It's free now (edit- or so I thought. after browsing the site, looks like the free download thing must have been a limited time offer. oh well, tough cookies)

Otherwise, I think this is MORE than enough reason to NOT get Halo:
If you have friends and a social life : Halo 1&2 for drunk co-op gaming.
If you own spock ears and a healthy virginity : Half-game and its sequel.

Thief, System Shock and Deus Ex.

What this man said.

Also, Half-Life 2 over Halo 2. Why? Because while both are great games, and worthy sequels to awesome games, Half-Life 2 absolutely shines when placed in comparison to it's predecessor. Halo 2 is different, true, but it doesn't feel as amazing as playing Half-Life then loading the start of Half-Life 2. Graphics, weapons, computer AI (85% of the time), sound, all that jazz.

Halo has better multiplayer, you can play it hours upon hours with friends so much different can happen, CS/CS:S is too repetitive. Halo: Combat Evolved sucked monkey balls on PC, I mean seriously like 6 weapons, and really repetitve levels. There were wayyy better shooters available for PC at the time, Halo got hyped for X-box and was crap on PC.

HL 2 is pretty awesome, but the story is rather confusing...though to be honest that's my fault, since I didn't get to play much of the original.

Though I will agree-throughout the game, and especially in the end, the gravity gun kicks so much ass it isn't even funny. Plus HL 2 had that crazy preacher in Ravenport. That guy was the shit :p

That is true. Both the gravity gun and the Ravenport part were the coolest things I have seen in a while. However, I have to give this one to Halo 2 because of three things:
1. Cost
2. No problems running software
3. Mulitplayer (at least until a new CS is made)

If you have X-box Live, there's really no contest. Halo 2 on X-box Live is unbelievably fun (and addictive). Team battles are an absolute riot. "Proximity voice" is fun for the trash-talkers out there (anyone within 20 feet of your character can hear you talk) -- nothing's more fun than snagging a ghost from an enemy who's been shooting up your team, then, while you boot him out, yelling in his ear "I've had ENOUGH of your shit!" Between jumping on enemy tanks and punching the driver out, sniping guys from a rooftop, sticking some mouthbreather with a plasma grenade, etc. -- it's consuming far more of my "family time" than I'd ever care to admit. Forget I mentioned it! I'm sure my wife would be glad to give you all the gory details.

To be fair, though, I've never even played Half-Life. All I can tell you is Halo 1 was the most immersive single-player FPS I've ever experienced, and Halo 2 on Live is simply awesome.

Gotta go with Half-life 2. Halo 2 in terms of gameplay and story was a major dissapointment for me, while Half-life 2 felt alot more complete in those areas.

I've played both games (I didn't finish Halo because I don't own an Xbox) but I would have to say HL2 wins. Halo is a pretty game and multiplayer is really fast and furious, but after you get bored of it... well damn what now.

HL2 has replayability- The mod community is probably the largest that exists; people were at the gates wanting the Source SDK to convert their HL mods to Source and even the new folks converting other mods from other platforms and even the people with a whole new idea. I know some folks who are converting a UT2k4 mod to Source.

The singleplayer on HL2 was far more interesting; physics is all I can say. Everything that isn't nailed down can become a weapon of mass disruption.
The gravity gun is my love stick.

But, for the love of god, will someone please mod HL2 Multiplayer!!!111oneoneone

Half-Life: 9.5
Halo: 9.5
Half-Life 2: 9.75
Halo 2: 9.25

They're both good games. I consider the Half-Life series to be superior though.
