I found this website which hosts several excellent documentaries, videos of BBC Newsnight, Question Time and other interviews. I'd recommend watching "The Power of Nightmares" (about climate of fear and neo-con movement in the US), "The myth of the Liberal Media" (brilliant), the Panama documentary etc.

Anyway, I hope some of you find some programmes that entertain and inform :). Post any thoughts and comments about what you watch

I suspect that might be a major part of the current problem: there is a difference between "entertainment" and "information." This particular site seems to be leaning so far toward the entertainment classification that it has virtually no redeeming social value. :)

Perhaps part of the problem is people such as yourself judging things without experiencing them. Forget about whether or not you agree with the homepage's ramblings, I've seen several of the documentaries on British TV before (the site simply hosts or directs to them) and they are excellent and informative, but you cannot be so naive as to expect any film or TV programme to be made in a sterile form with no attempt at making the transfer of information partly enjoyable. The whole point is that noone can make a truely objective film/documentary and you should watch or read about as many takes on a situation as possible to make your own INFORMED judgement of a situation. But when I said "programmes that entertain and inform" I was refering to the mixture of comedy programmes and documentaries in the video section - something that I would have thought would be immediately apparent

Like I said, go and watch the documentaries when you've got a spare moment as they are very interesting and cover areas of politics etc that the US media never genuinely bother with. The extracts from foreign news programmes are also worth checking out.

I've also seen a number of these and, particularly the BBC ones, are relatively fair and unbiased in that they objectively report the facts but do add in human interest stories. They are tainted more with human rights and sovereignty concerns than with anti-American or anti-capitalist sentiment.

And if human rights are something you oppose, you're just not a very nice person.
