Why don't we hear anything about afghanistan anymore? I mean, really? there are troops there, and things are happening. there was an election, but i didn't find out about it until i read a satirical reference to it in the Onion.
(a comment about how afghan voter turn out is better than american)
So, why don't we hear anything at all?

pretty much because American's lost interest and Saddam became the new 'badguy'. I know a guy in Afghanistan and plenty is still happening over there, its all just being ignored by American media/White House dpending on your outlook of the current political landscape.

I think Afghanistan is going to be an ongoing process. I think it will be difficult for a true democracy to take hold as long as the Afghans cling to a tribal/clannish mentality but only time will tell. In the short term the drug trade needs to be dealt with, and foreign countries (including the US) need to follow through with their promises for aid. I think at the moment only Japan has kept their word.
oi! Less Nation States, more Eve.. oh, wait...

So, why don't we hear anything at all?because Afghanistan no longer has any fuel for "Anti-American/Anti-Bush" Pundits... so they Ignore Afghanistan because it succeeded while da shrub was in the White House. Oh and FOX NEWS covered the elections. It was at the same time Saddam was caught.
Ooops, I mentioned something good about FoxNews... INCOMING FIRE [ducks into foxhole.]
