So I was at this guy's house two days ago and we (There were three of us) were playing Halo 2 in the basement. I had to go to the bathroom, so I go upstairs, Take a leak, and walk out. His sister walks by, whose a year older than me and who I play music with in my school Jazz band; thus, I know her pretty well. So we talk music for a little less than half an hour, then I'm like, Holy Crap, Halo 2!

I walk downstairs, and instead of seeing the guys playing Halo 2, they're getting high on weed. The guy gets up, stumbles, then offers me some, holding out the bag. I unsheath my knife, a Tanto, (http://www.myknifesource.com/COLDSTEEL/small%20pic/cs-tanto.gif), full 6 and 1/2-inch blade, and cut the bag open. The weed goes all over the place, And I think the guy was pretty wasted, so I'm not even sure he knew what was going on. I sheath the knife, go upstairs, and say goodbye to his sister, then walk home, a full thirty minutes.

Turns out the sister came downstairs twn minutes later to find the weed, and told her parents about it. Now the guy is royally screwed.

So, the question is, Do you think i did the right thing? My reason is that my brother is pretty much a down-in-the-gutter junkie doing nothing with his life, and I hate seeing people doing drugs.

Terrible decision. His weed, not yours. Let the man enjoy himself!

You should try to get them to stop, but not in the way Health class tells you. Just talk to him as the person you knew him before as, only persuading him to stop. You should try to get the language that works for that exact person.

That is most likely illegal in your state, and possesion of a deadly weapon isn't something cops tend to laugh off.

If you feel the need to brandish a deadly weapon in the face of a stoner and a baggie of weed perhaps you are not as equipped to be carrying the knife as you think. In some states just pulling it is a felony as opposed to the bag of weed which may be just a misdemeanor. Depending on the weight in NYS it might well be a violation possession with the liability of a fine while the possession and use of the knife could bring you state time.

The few deaths so far have been due to water intoxication. It's so recent that not enough long-term studies have been done. But those bullshit "studies" funded by anti-drug agencies do more harm than good by propogating lies to scare people, rather than fully educating us.

While I find no reason to partake in drugs like that myself (indeed, the single time I have been stoned, it made me rather ill), you need to respect that what your friend does to his body is ultimately his business. There is truth to the pizza parallel, actually; both are bad for you, yes, but neither one is going to do you real harm unless you forget to take it in moderation. I know a considerable number of people who smoke weed regularly, and who also manage good grades at a high-end private college, remain quite intelligent, and show no signs of related health problems.

Using the excuse that it is illegal leads to the problem that you must also acknowledge that it's illegality is being called into question, and may no longer be the case in a couple of years. Marijuana is less damaging to the human body than your standard cigarette, and if there isn't a particularly good reason to keep it illegal, it should not remain so. Indeed, there are many reasons it should be legalized; it would lead to lower use rates (European nations have found this to be true after legalizing it), lower crime rates (as it would put many dealers out of business), and less of a burden on the healthcare and wellfare systems (as regulated, store-bought weed would not contain the "filler" materials that often make street-bought weed dangerous or even deadly).

Lastly, even if you wanted to throw the contents of the bag all around the room, you could easily have done so without pulling a deadly weapon. Such actions are dangerous even with proper training, and they can put you in legal hazards as well. Imagine if his sister had come down to see you pointing that blade at her brother while he was holding out the bag; you might have been in far deeper trouble than he.
