I love thinking of baby names. My favorites:

Claire, Grace, Kennedy, Rowan, or Leota for a girl.
Bryce, Gabriel, Nader, Allen, or Eric for a boy.

What do you think of them? What are your favorites?

Well family traditions dictates that my oldest son will be Karl after that I don't know but I have always liked names that aren't as common, at least not comon were I live, long names like Alexander or Vladimer.

My partner and I have a list, but he has it, and since he's interstate I can't tell you all the names.
For a girl, we're almost certain on Zeah. We also liked Isidora, Lyra and Azalea.
For a boy we're not so sure, but Xavier is up there. And I'm looking for a nice Indian name, tp which my partner always says "Sanjay," which is too common for m liking...

My childrens' names:

Georgia Winter Mikayla (we call her Winter)
Virginia Autumn Renee (we call her Autumn)
Damien Hannibal James Stewart (we call him Hannibal)

If Hannibal had been a girl, he would have been named December Elizabeth Marie (we would have called her December).

It is highly unlikely we will have any more children unless we adopt in the future.

It's a good name.... just thoes damn Catholics who gave it a negative connotation. However, since I'm not Catholic and (hopefully) my future wife isn't, I wouldn't have a problem naming a son that.

Lucifer Michael Boniface... Has a nice ring to it!

Not just Catholic. I would assume that many Christians would have resevations about the name.

I always liked Ieuan (YAY-an) for boys and Angharad - (ahng-HAHR-ahd, meaning "greatly loved one") for girls.

For those outside the UK, these are Welsh names :)

Names I've seen so far that I like:
Damien
Lucifer
Morpeus
Isadora (ok, here it was 'Isidora', but it's similar to the spelling I'd use)
Xavier
Vladimer
Alexander
Mikael
Sophie

Names that tend to come up often when I consider this sort of thing:
Boys - Artemis, Thomas, Thaddeus, Theo, Milo, Jeremy, Robert, Ponder, Vader,
Girls - Jasmine, Lillith, Miranda, Jade, Holly, Sharn, Talia

I sort of swing between wanting really traditional names (Robert, Damien, etc), to slightly non-normal names (Lucifer, Vladimer etc), and through to 'love-of-movie/book character' names (Ponder, Vader, etc).

Oh, and with the non-normal, I mean in Australia. And specifically, the part of Australia I live in. Names in this category are probably completely normal in other parts of the world.

In my high school there were 2 identical twins in one of my classes. One's name was Alexander, the other's name was Alexi. And they both had the same middle name. It was good though because you could just call them Alex and you wouldn't need to try and figure out who is who

Hmm, well, knowing almost nothing about Star Wars, I was under the impression Darth was a title, or something similar to a title, and not a name.

If I'm wrong, then yeah, Darth might also work as a name (I still prefer Vader though).

Wait, 'it is' as in, it is a title, or as in it is a name?

Gasp, I might actually have knowledge about Star Wars... how shocking (when you consider I have absolutely no reason to, and there's no logical explaination for why I should)

Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul.... Basically all Sith (People on the Dark side of The Force) are "Darth ...", where "..." is a pseudonym (Like Lenin or Stalin)

I work at an English language school. When kids first come in we get to give them English nicknames. It's probably one of my favourite parts of my job. I've started to do "theme" classrooms for names. Movies, Camelot, The Bible, Gods/Goddesses, Novels, Alphabetical Order (Adelaide, Bertrand, Caradoc, Deirdre etc etc etc.) Seasons/Months/Flowers (though that only works for the girls)

Some of the names have gotten so bizarre that half of the teachers can't pronounce them and they've taken to just assuming that I'm the one giving all the kids weird names.

Some of my favourite names
Jaryn
Sarri
Caradoc
Maya
Leia

Woo, I got it right then. And I managed it without having ever seen one of the movies, read one of the books or had even one friend who was a fan.

I wonder how I managed that...

Probably having heard of Darth Vader and Darth Maul, I imagine... although it was a pretty big logic jump even then...

Anyway, I should stop side-tracking this whole thread.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Legless :D

James for a boy
Amelia for a girl

Though if we adopt from abroad then I would be considering names from their culture as well.

Ah I love family traditions!

Unfortunatly family tradition on the partners side means that our 1st son will have to have Moorland as his middle name :(

I've remembered a few more
Boys: Asher and Vladimir
Girl: Persephone, Ayesha (there was an alternative spelling but I can't remember it!)

And tradition in my family has it that a son gets his father's first name as his middle name. So... David it is, if we choose to follow that.

Bit of an academic exercise for me, as I don't want children - but here are names I like anyway :)

Girls: Esther, Rosalind, Bronagh, Euphemia
Boys: Michael, Adrian, William, Everard

Yes, I am being serious about the last one on each list! I find some names that are now pretty much obsolete really cool, partly because of the fact that they're so unusual.
