What is the purpose of life?
Just wondering what other people think.
Its amazing how many people go on living with out thinking of such things. :)

To end.

On an extension, it makes you wonder about if there is a higher power. I don't believe in God as a figure, but as a higher entity or power, maybe a polythiestic power. I just don't know, because how did existance...exist? It's those kind of questions that just make you wonder.

Whaever you want it to be. A better question would be "What is the origin of life." Questions like that always provide for interesting conversation :) .

Life is the way it is. What gives it meaning and purpose is how you interpret it. Life is only to be difficult up until the point in which you die. What would life be if it weren't challenging? Well for starts, boring and pointless. All you are supposed to do is create the blank page into a maze ending in pools of knowledge.

The point of the life is to be lived. The purpose, I don't know. That's generally something each individual has to find for themselves.

I'm atheist. I believe that I'll die - I mean, die, not to resurrect in some great place or as a weird animal. Well, I don't think life has to have a purpose, but my own purpose is to have contributed in making the world a little better for those who will live on this earth after me, and to help others around me being happy. And of course, in my free time in that huge task, try to have as much fun and live as many experiences as possible! Give me beer, give me weed, give me girls and rock n' roll! :D

there is no purpose of life
there is no inherent meaning of life
all there is is how you live it. your "job" as a thoughtful person is to find a way to life your life to its best use.

it may not be FUN or pleasant or at times even seem bearable, but the well lived life is by far the most satisfying

if you are one of those people who are in dispair over the utter meaninglessness of your life and wonder why you even bother continuing it, i recommend the book "man's search for meaning" by viktor frankl. (availabe at amazon.com for cheap but i couldnt make the search url work here)

thin book, you only need to read half of it and no bullshit happy talk.

I only see two points in life: to gain knowledge on something you enjoy and to have fun in the process. All my goals fall under these to all-encompassing definitions.

The purpose of life is to overcome problems.

Think of how shitty a place the world would be if it was perfect . . . what would you do?

Besides, there's no greater feeling in the world (well maybe sexual feelings) than overcoming a great obstacle that you've worked hard at for years.

Life is an empty vessel. We fill it, or not, with meanings that suit us.

The purpose of life is to experience all that your senses provide you, to love and be loved by another, and to be remembered by those who've shared your life and times.

The purpose of life is "it." Many in a certain profession consider "it" the “fourth dimension.” In the end, “it” is what we all want more of. But we have to make the most of “it” and share “it” wisely while we exist. "It" is what you have been given. How you spend "it" determines how your children will benefit or suffer from "it."

The purpose of life is to learn.
I reckon it is like a school, we experience different things and are always challenged.
Life is about giving love, getting hurt, growing and developing from such experiences and contributing to society in one way or another.
It's about asking questions and stuff.

From what point of perspective?

From a biological point of view the reason is fairly simple, we simply exist to maintain this plany. Herbivores eat plants, Carnivores eat animals. And in between they breed to make sure the system doesn't die out.

If you mean a more philosphical point of view, then the point is to grow, become strong, enjoy life and remember that the I comes before the We.

What? I suscribe to the belief of the strong over the weak. No very PC... I know. *sniffles* I tried my best but I just couldn't keep up! :(

How can there be a purpose to something that resulted from random chemical changes and mutations?

The question shouldn't be why life is, but, "now that we have life, what should we do with it?"

Life is its own end, there need not be any "higher purpose." The main goal of human life is the individual's happiness.
