Some newbie's questions

Lemieuxstad

Hello everyone.

I'm new here and my name is Philippe Lemieux.I am the famous  leader of the Republic of Lemieuxstad in the North Pacific Region.Below is a small description of the real me not the one who governs the country:

Country of origin: Canada(Quebec province but unfortunately this is not yet a country)
Age: 23
Sex: Male
Useful facts: Been role-playing and gaming for almost 10 years now.Been an addict of games like Civ, SimCity etc. and have an hardcore passion for all things military.Been working as a freelance illustrator for 2 years and I'm starting my own graphic design company in a short time.I am also the gamemaster of a live-action diplomacy game much like this very on-line game.

So I perused through many of the FAQs but didn't find many answers to my questions so here goes and I hope I'm in the right section for that:

1 - OK I think I grasp pretty much the functionning of the non-forum part of the game but how do the In-Character part of it works. Is there any fixed rules or everything is just decided by role-playing.If yes are there any referees or ''gamemasters'' that can state officially that you have, say 500 Leo2A6 main battle tank.

2- In reference to the previous question.Once you roleplay the thing how do you pay for them.Because I searched through my country's datasheet but didn't find anything apart from a subjective rating of what my ecnonmy is.There's no ''credits'', ''budget'' or any hard data to confirm that I have x or y money.

3- Is there a map of some sort of the countries in my region, of the world or anything approaching this. How do I know which countries border my own country?

4- If someone invade me is it all right to say ''there's a bridge at this town and I've placed 50% of my forces there to block your passage''.How the outcome of a strategic military move is decided?

5- How do I trade goods produced by my country. How do I know that I have this type of good or that type?Where and how is it decided?

So I think that's all the questions that pass through my mind as of now.I'm really interested in the role-playing part of the game but I would like to know if there are any hard rules to that part and if there is where could I find them.

Thanks for you patience for the newbie and hope some of you can help me out.

You can basically take all those questions and ask people in II. All you get is the stuff you see on the main page of your nation, as well as your issues and telegrams.

Everything else is either imaginationated or RP'ed.

The only thing we can help you with in General is imaginating crazy political motives.

Hey! This probably more belongs in the Gameplay forum, but I'll try an answer. :)

Role-playing.... no absolute rules, but I believe if you don't act somewhat realistic noone will play with you. :p

Go check out International Incidents (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1230) or NationStates (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1223) for IC Roleplaying.

Money... it's all made up. But there are calculators that will show you how much of your budget is based in certain sectors and calculate how much money you have.

Mapping... that's mostly just in-region. I know in TNP there's one on the off-site forum run by Thel. But for RP purposes there's no grandiose map that I know of.

The rest is more detailed than I know, since I don't RP. But I can say welcome to NS! :)
