"Jihad Rap," Freedom of Speech, or Incitement to Terrorism?

I just today learned about "Jihad Rap." After hearing the lyrics and watching the videos, I have to confess to a great deal of anger. One of the videos shows the airplanes impacting the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 with the sounds of people laughing in the background.

Yet, I so value freedom of speech that I'm reluctant to say these disgusting videos and lyrics should be prohibited from distribution.

It would be interesting to do "exit interviews" on those who purchase such bile. I really would like to know what American in his/her right mind would even dignify this garbage by buying it.

Well now you've got me interested! Could you provide some sites where I could view this material and make a judgement of my own? Whatever the message, I don't think it should be banned...I hate racism, but I don't support muzzling racist stupidity either. I'm also interested in what is behind this Jihad Rap...is it pure hatred of the U.S, or is it outrage that 911 is considered to be the worst thing that has happened in the world despite the fact that many more people have died since then in various conflicts around the world (or of hunger for that fact)? People who don't like what these people are saying aren't going to buy their products anyway...and those who agree with them likely did BEFORE they heard the music. I doubt it is going to sway someone either way.

This is the best site I could find on "Jhiad Rap:"

You people are so naive. If that was a real terrorist video, which it clearly isn't,the us government would have taken down any site with it on and blocked it.It's what they always do.They did it with eelamweb.com, and other sites relating to sri lanka, and they weren't even terrorist.

Who said this was a terrorist video? It's certainly promoting killing "the infidels" though, and celebrating the attacks of September 11, 2001. At least I think so: The images are clear, but the lyrics are hard to make out. Something about "Respect the almighty one"... "just like we blew up the two towers..." Most of it is slurred together.

I haven't seen it, but I am a staunch supporter of freemdom of speech. I think that sometimes certain things should be restricted from certain areas, like sex on children's shows, a blatant example, but there should always be at least one medium for someone to express him- or herself.

No matter how distasteful I find this "Jihad Rap" I am powerless to silence it (freedom of speech) - but people can be smart enough NOT to buy it

Dirty Kuffar has been around for a while, I have to admit that I would never have heard of it except for the fuss that was made here when some radio "personality" was demanding that it be banned. Obviously, as a direct result of the foaming-at-the-mouth rhetoric, I downloaded it to see for myself.

I have to say that, while I would never agree with terrorism and that the clip is obviously bodgied together out of old footage, some of the points it makes (the US soldiers cheering after killing people, the list of countries invaded or interfered with) need to be seen to counteract the jingoistic "us good, them bad" attitude that some people have displayed - including on these boards.

Why shouldn't these people have the right to say what they want in the medium they choose. After all, Anne (we should invade them and convert them to christianity) Coulter has her forum and her right to dribble inanities protected so why shouldn't someone who holds another view?

Again - I do not support the view displayed in the clip I think that the whole retaliatory direction things are going in is destructive in too many ways to list. But if you allow one extreme view to be heard you can't complain if the opposite extreme wants to be heard as well.

Anyway, if you want to break it down, art (and yes, however lacking in technical merit this IS a form of art) is meant to make you uncomfortable in your assumptions and expectations. It's supposed to make people think about their world.

If you don't like it, don't buy it, change the channel, find something else to listen to or best of all - make some art of your own to answer it. Complaining and banning don't work - they just draw more attention to the thing you don't like...
