Nah, we won't always choose the path to a percieved greater pleasure, we will just do it a lot of the time. In other words we have the CHOICE to choose whether we take the path of greater pleasure or not.

Sorry, I didn't post the comics leading to the one in my post. The doughnut's filled with sharp things, but no one cares because it's 40,000 calories. Now that's a good doughnut.

As some one else on this forum said

"I may as well believe i have free will, because if i don't, its not my fault is it?"

genius :D

Because there may be a greater good than our own perceived greater pleasure. Like relieving stores of the doughnuts to free up some space. That's my story anyway. hmm... tesco's jam doughnuts... (Homer drool)

Hmm... This thread is quickly becoming a pro-doughnut stronghold. Eh, hell with it.

It's true, but on reflection I now sympathise with certain other pastry products who feel they are being under-represented. We need to remove the emphasis from doughnuts or risk being accused of pastryism. Let us celebrate all manner of bread products!!

Then again, when a Krispy Kreme donut shop opened here in Issaquah, we had massive lines outside the new store, and traffic jams going straight into Seattle and other westside cities.

And lets not forget our recent Halo 2 stampedes, especially the way large lines formed outside the Experience Music Project due to the fact that they were having a demo of it.

This is just what happens here locally. If humans behave like this all over, Dogbert is probably far more correct than most people care to know.

I have to confess, i didn't buy Football Manager 2005, as i knew my social life would be destroyed otherwise ("Addiction has a new name" the ad says....damn right it does :D ) So it was a choice between pleasures there.

Still it arrived for my birthday...woohoo!!! Bradford back in the prem!!!

But i think many would still sacrafice some pleasure to see others gain. I mean, i stayed at home with an ill friend rather than go to see my footie team...and they actually won as well...so not path of greater pleasure there, hence free will :D

Cool. Don't know why I'm having a go at Bradford really. Jealousy s'pose. West Brom would kill for a 5 game winning streak.

Still..

DOUGHNUTS (and pretzels, pains au chocolat, croissants, bagels, and rolls too)!!!!
