How do blind people envision the world?

I'm very curious everytime I see someone with the stick or the seeing-eye dog.

How do you think they envision colors to be?
Do they even know how to vision something in their minds?
How do they think we look like?

Of course, I mean people who are born blind.

I don't think they can picture anything. They are not able to imagine colors, or describe something in the same way that seeing people do. Even people who go blind later in life forget colors after a while.

They use their other senses to describe things: sound, smells and touch.

EDIT: I should add "or so I've read". Not being blind myself I have no idea and can't imagine how they "picture" the world.

That's a really good question. I've wondered the same thing.

From what I've read and in classes, if a person is born blind, then, they cannot imagine anything because they haven't seen it... however, if a person is blinded after they have taken in the world around them, then, they can still envision colors, landscapes, people, etc.

Unfortunatly, due to the format of this forum, and NS, I don't think we will get any first-hand accounts of what a blind person "sees"

I'll ask my friend who is blind, but I think it goes like this-

Imagine a color you have never seen- that is, not red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, black, white, gray, or any shade in-between. Can't do it? Niether can blind people, and they haven't seen any color. I don't know if that's the truth, maybe I'm just being presumptuous. Some see black or white. They can read computer text, through a speech software program, so maybe someone will visit here and let you know.
