I'm 15 and almost 16. I did drivers ed. (and hated it)
I'm going to get my lisence in January, but I really hate driving and I don't even want my lisence.
Any advice? Are there ways to like driving more? Does anyone else hate driving? (so far I think I'm the only one. Every one else just thinks I'm crazy. (I already know that though))
It's not that I'm scared of driving, it's just way to boring.

Listening to music helps. It gets better the more experience you have with it, and some kinds of driving are more fun than others (ie highway is boring, twisty backroads are fun fun)

I have some mixed feelings on cars. They are a conveniant and wonderful luxury. Driving in itself can be a fun and liberating experience.
They stop being such an amazing luxury when you stop driving a parent's car and get your own. Then you have to pay for gas, get oil changes, pay for insurance, pay for replacement parts when something breaks, or 100 other things no one told you about. Don't forget trips to the mechanic where you have to trust that they aren't ripping you a new one on prices because cars have become to complicated for the average person to know all about them.
I also don't like the importance cars have gained in our society because they have become a status symbol that some people use to judge you. Something that is just a mode of transportation shouldn't be so important.

I like drivin' especially when I'm goin' faster than 150mph, but I guess you ain't allowed to go that fast in the US. Over here you just get on the Autobahn and drive as fast as you can and than it's fun :D

I hate driving. Drive alot for no other reason then to drive. I hear it's supposed to help. Like learning to drink beer or coffee. Didn't work for me though.

Taking a bus is so much easier and cheaper. Get on, flash your bus pass (or pay if you don't have one), sit down (if there are unoccupied seats), stand up, get off.

You'll appreciate it more when you can do it alone. nut you'll hate it again when you realize you have to pay for gas. I hate Gas!

Thanks to everyone who replyed.....
At least now I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like driving......
I guess it's just a necessary evil if you don't want to always be taking the bus.
And I live in Washington (it rains all the time) so I can't really bike everywhere either.....
I guess it'll probably be more fun when I can do it alone and listen to music that I like. And when I can finally drive friends around. There is this new rule that says I can't do that for like 6 months after I get my lisence.
Gas. Hm, I can't wait till I'm buying my own. (NOT!)

Driving is a means to an end. You want the convenience of getting from point A to point B without walking to a bus stop etc, or paying a ridiculous amount for a cab, then you drive. But remember driving is a privelidge, not a right. Respect the rights of the other drivers on the road and NEVER drink or do drugs and get behind a wheel. Enjoy the freedom of the open road while you can, open the window and listen to your favorite tunes, because very soon there wll be a dog barking and whining in the back of your mini-van, 2 kids screaming their friggin heads off right behind you and a significant other in the passenger seat explaining that you are going the wrong way etc.
Hope that makes you feel happier.

Heh. Im 23. Im from norway, where gas costs almost 2$ pr. litre. (hmm, no idea what it is in gallons, but it is MUCH)
Sooo, i used the money a license would have cost (`bout 1900$) and spendt them on a bike. Without any stupid motors. Still have to maintain it, and it sucks when therese rain, but apart from that, its great. (and, yeah, you have to live in the middle of a city)
keeps you fit too, and is much more fun than driving. Also, you have an excuse to go faster than the speedlimits. (no speedometre)

Kinda steep for an oil producing country.
petrol costs almost 90p/litre in some places here...dont know how much that is in dollars, $1.50 id guess.
i love driving, just because i love driving. no other reason, the only thing that can possibly diminish my enjoyment is the stupidity of other road users, but once you get onto a deserted twisty backroad, theres nothing like it in the world

Of course. But almost all the price are taxes, and the rest, well, norway is expensive.

I have horrible vision (I can't believe they gave me a license...I did a lot of flirting with old ladies). So I if I drive at night, I'm like death on wheels. I'm scared someone is going to die...probably me. Cars are stupid. I'm still waiting for instant teleportation--now that's the way to travel!!! ;)

The only way I like to drive is with good musin on the radio, a girl on the passengers side and my hand on her thigh. That way you don't care if roads get clogged.
Otherwise, I hate it.

Ya know -- no one is about to put a gun to your head and say DRIVE!
If you don't like it, don't do it.
I turn 17 in 4 months and I still don't have my licencse, and I have no desire to get it. However, I really do need it. I hate driving with a passion. I really do. So you are not alone.

I assume that, with your permit, you have to have someone over 21 in the car with you? If you have an older sibling, or just anyone you know who's over 21 and isn't your parents, that helps. I hate driving with my mom and dad, but driving is actually fun if it's with my sister or someone.

I hate city driving or freeway/beltway driving when I'm getting close to the city. That kind of driving is hectic and nervewracking or at a tedious, congested dead stop, there isn't alot of inbetween. But, when you get out on the open stretch of an interstate like I-95 it can be enjoyable 'cause you can finally move, stretch out.
One way to make it less boring and easier is to avoid the busiest routes and take another road that people don't think of as much. That's what I do instead of being bored and frustrated. {shrug}
Got my learners permit 2 years after I could, at 18.
Driving sucks.

That would be better, but unfortunately i'm the eldest child, so my options are Dad, or a driving instructor. Oh well.

No family friends or anything? Well, that sucks. I hate driving with my parents, and the instructors are even worse.

Well, my extended family lives in another state, so it rules out practically everyone else. I have friends who are 21 and have their licences, but they're not exactly good people to learn from...one wrote off his car just last week :p
Anyway, we've got a good public transport system. I can get myself anywhere using it and I have a student discount card. So it's not a problem, really.

Hmmm...for me, driving is all-important, as is having my own car. Even if repairs ($275 for some stupid switch just because we had to get it from the dealership) are steep, and gas is ridiculous (we complain about $2 a gallon for gas here in the U.S., which is about $.50 a liter, and prices I see here work out to about three times that...although in the U.S. people drive more just because they have to. At least I do. I have put over 10,000 miles on my car since I got it in June...at this rate I am on pace for somewhere around 24,000 miles, and this is without this weekend's trip up to Niagara Falls (about a 6-8 hour drive from Columbus, OH, USA.)

I am the oldest child so there's no one to drive with. My parents are ok... Dad is more calm.... Mom still kind of freaks out.... (although I have improved)
No one is holding a gun to my head, but..... my parents honestly can't figure out why I wouldn't want to drive. So they think I should enjoy it.
My Dad actually told me of a game he likes to play while driving. He plays "figure out who is an idiot" by looking at who isn't driving very well. Then he avoids those people.
I'm not ever going to drink and drive, so none of you have to worry about that.... (isn't it kind of scary that if you take certain decongestants and stuff it can affect your driving? I guess you have to be really careful)
I'm still very happy to know others out there hate to drive. My plan is to drive the minimum hours I have to to get my lisence (because my parents want me to have it..... don't ask my why) and then not ever drive again. (well, I will probably drive sometimes......)
Does somebody want to tell me how to quote multiple people? I don't really know how to do that.

I absolutely loathe driving. I work half an hour away from my house, and have to drive through the horribly boring Kansas countryside on my way there.
