YOU CAN'T HAVE A LINE ITEM VETO! unless you're a Republican. (ie Clinton).

(AP) - Six years after the Supreme Court took away the president's ability to veto specific parts of legislation, President Bush is asking Congress to bring back the line-item veto to let him make precision strikes against projects and tax provisions he doesn't like. At a news conference after his re-election, Bush said he wanted a line-item veto that "passed constitutional muster," explaining it would help him work with lawmakers "to make sure that we're able to maintain budget discipline."

I really don't understand this. First you say that President Bush is creating a massive deficit that's going to make the earth fall into the sun. Then you raise hell when he wants a line item veto so he can limit spending. And your reference to Clinton makes no sense at all.

The biggest bunch of whiners ever!!! My god, Bush won, deal with it!!!

(on topic, the line item veto could hardly be considered REPUBLICAN hypocracy, since the only president to have the authority, before it was overturned, was CLINTON. NOT REPUBLICAN!!!)

Clinton wanted line item veto and the Repubs(some demos included) said no way!

Now the Pres is asking for it and will probably get it.

That is hypocracy.....

As long as he uses it to cut the pork, I'm fine with it.

Not that I expect that to happen, of course.

The only problem with a Line-Item Veto is that it's unconstitutional. Congress cannot simply legislate away its own power without an amendment.

I'm a Republican and would like to see this power for the President, but I realize that we've got to follow the rules.

This would seriously limit the powers of congress to pass anything.

This would give the executive branch too much power, no matter which party is in control.

another flip-flop from George W Bush. After years of John Kerry supporting a line-item veto and George W Bush opposing it, now Bush suddenly supports it

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

So, no, we will not "just deal with it". We will be on him like ugly on Dick Cheney. 24/7 and without relent.

Deal with it.
