It's Brad Pitt
Going to Ethiopia
To Study AIDS
on Yahoo's front page.
Why in the hell would Brad Pitt study AIDS, and why would it be on the front page of yahoo.
I always said Jennifer Aniston was dirty. And there ya go. She left him a present.

Why in the hell would Brad Pitt study AIDS, and why would it be on the front page of yahoo.PR. it'll give him credibility when he starts spouting anti-establishment slogans.
*expecting some conservative say that Brad Pitt is gay*

Well celebrities like to do that whole, I'm going to change the world thing. (Give 46664 your millions of dollars then?) Although admittedly, it works better when it's something like a concert.
And I think somewhere like Botswana might have been a better place to study AIDs.
As for the front page... Isn't it obvious that that's the most important thing happening ni the world right now? :p

And I think we should all give Brad Pitt more credit.
He WAS in Fight Club after all! :p

I agree it shouldn't be on the first page of anything. Who cares? Plus, they shouldn't call it "study AIDS". What is he going to study about AIDS? What's his hypothesis? What experimentation methods will he follow? Who's going to publish his results?
He's just going to take a look at poor people living in miserable conditions so that he'll look good. Not "study AIDS".

PR. it'll give him credibility when he starts spouting anti-establishment slogans.
Epithets do not give one credibility. Deeds, not words or gestures.
Although a gesture is, technically, a deed, but it isn't the sort of deed that extablishes credibility, unless we are talking about a hand gesture to an important establishment figure. And then it would have to be the right sort of hand gesture, done at the right time ...
Oh, nevermind.

why would it be on the front page of yahoo.
Because people will either be so mindless as to consider it acutal news, or else bitch about it repeatedly saying "Brad Pitt" and "Yahoo", both popular words in popular culture.
So either way, they get free advertising by associating with each other.

I'll need to invent a proper sarcasm smiley I think......my actual sarcasm doesn't follow through in type and I'm too lazy to use bbcode to do it properly.....

You do?
Jeez...isnt this ironic? Every day threads are created by people with apparently 'open minds' to discuss topics important to them, and yet when its publicised that a famous person might be doing something beneficial everyone automatically doubts their actions and starts ripping them to shreds!
If he's wanting to do something positive about a subject as serious as AIDS - even by drawing attention to it via publicity - then get off his back. I know I havent done anything to help the world today, and I doubt most of you have either.

Not true! I helped the world today! I rid it of one more bottle of coke.
I think it's a great that celebrities are visiting these poor people... even if the people don't know who they are.

It's not so much the fact that he is doing it, it's not even the fact that he obviously is doing it for publicity, why else would he have all the photo ops and have a front page spot on Yahoo.
It's the absurdity of saying that Brad Pitt is going to travel across the globe to "study" AIDS. What is he going to learn? And will he share his indepth discoveries with us?
Yeah, those god-damned Coke bottles get everywhere! :D
I live in Amsterdam and Brad Pitt/George Clooney were over here not too long ago to shoot part of Oceans 12. They visited my local Coffeeshop (a cannabis shop, real coffee shops are called cafe's over here). Needless to say they sampled the goods, and theres huge pics of them in the shop having a spliff and stuff :D

Like someone else said, its not words but deeds that make a man. Take it you voted Bush?

Blame that on Yahoo for being stupid (I cant say I rely on Yahoo for up-to-the-minute news), and so what if he wants to either find out more about it or help people? Like I said even publicity is a bonus for something like AIDS.

No hasty generalizations, my friend.
My only point is that it is absurd.

Apologies, only meant as a joke, but speaking of hasty generalisations...
...and I see nothing absurd with anyone helping anyone in any way

If that is the item that Yahoo has decided to place on its homepage, the World must be rather quiet today. And I beleive that is a good thing. :fluffle:

If you directed that ellipsis at me, I would like to point out that I inferred that Pitt was being an opportunist with good evidence. I may be a little cynical but I try not to generalize people.
But my point is that even IF (and it is a big if, as I'm assuming you dont know Pitt personally) he is being, as you put it, an opportunist he is still helping people. And isnt there just a small possibility that he might be doing it because he wants to?
I know where you're coming from with the cynicism, but actions with good intent are often cheapened because of it.
Look, I'm not going to get into a debate whether Brad Pitt is using publicity for his advantage or not, but I see his actions as a positive thing no matter what and even though AIDS is an old topic, its still a very real one.
