So, how about it? In a decentralized form? With American opinions at odd, I see no better solution than to decentralize government, allowing both Californians and Nebraskans to live more or less in a society that suits their mores, and allow a variety for the rest of Americans.

It's states' rights that would allow Nebraska and California to live differently, not federalism

They don't have their own militaries outside of the normal national guard units that they have right now. Nobody stated dissolution of the US, just a fair reading of the 9th and 10th amendments.
